Playback isn't paused when answering calls [Android]

Hi,
from a couple of days spotify won't stop playing music when an incoming call arrives.
So I hear both call and music that is very annoying
I have to close the application manually.
Anyone have the same problem and have an idea how to fix it ?

I'm on a Nexus 5 (2013) running android 6.0 with Spotify 4.1.0.868.

If music is playing and a phone call comes in, it does not pause during the ringer. If I deny the call, the music will pause for a short bit while it's denying the call and once it's gone, the music will resume. 

If I accept the call, it will only pause for a short second once I've accepted the call, but will continue the music through the ear speaker. I'm not sure if the person on the other end can hear the music, but I have to say "hang on" while I go into the app to manually pause the music.

This issue happens over bluetooth as well. Need a fix ASAP, guys.

1. Keeps playing in the background when making or receiving a call with bluetooth.

2. Starts playing through speakers when pulling out the mini-jack cable.

I've tried uninstall and reinstall with no luck.

Same on two devices that I use.

I've had the same problem as everyone else on Samsung Galaxy S5 since last Spotify update. Haven't been annoyed enough to investigate problem or complain until today when I received several calls on my personal phone (Galaxy S5) at work, unplugged phone from computer speakers (where I have Spotify playing almost inaudibly) and as soon as I answer my phone Spotify starts blaring my obnoxiously loud Christian hip-hop throughout the office, I have to hang up on whoever called me, find Spotify app, shut it down and return the phone call with an awkward apology.

Spotify does this every time since the last update, regardless of whether I'm connected to blutooth.

Neither I nor my family and close friends are big phone callers, but for those who are, I can only imagine this would be a Spotify killer. Super obnoxious.

Please fix ASAP.

The same problem, with HTC One M8 running Lollipop 5.0.1. In addition to the call issue, it also does not stop playing once I unplug the headset. It used to stop (before the update). Now I have to tap pause button everytime I unplug my headset.

I've just cancelled my premium subscription and sent a tweet to @SpotifyCares so they actually pay attention. It's going to be Google Music for me from now on.
I've lost too many calls because of this and it's simply not acceptable!

Still having this issue on an LG G3 running Android 5.0.1 App version 4.1.0.868. Hopefully an update is coming soon that will fix this.

I received a Spotify update from the Play store this morning and can confirm that the problem is now fixed for me. I just did a few test calls and the music properly stopped through the ringer and the call. 

My Spotify app is now at version: 4.2.0.739

Just installed the update. Tried a few things, like unplugging the headset, making calls... The issue seems to be fixed. Can't count on it though. Needs more rigorous testing 😛

I fixed this using the advice of @mnpeter above. On my Galaxy s6 edge plus I went into the battery optimising settings and disabled it for Spotify. Hopefully there'll be a more permanent fix coming, but this works fine for me at the moment.
