My Question or Issue

The new way of ordering playlists has made making playlists impossible for me. I have hundreds of playlists and it's hard to find the ones you want because spotify randomly orders them.  You can order the playlists in the main list of playlists but when you are listening to a track and choose to add it to playlist then you get a randomly sorted list of playlists that you can't change the order on.  The playlists also switch places in the list so when you want to add a song to several playlists then the order can be switched around and you have to look through the whole list again. So basically the phone is useless for making playlists now so please change the sorting of playlists

Yes, I'm aware of the folder option, however it's not a solution.

If i want to add a song I still need to look for the specific playlist within the folder.

I don't like alfabetical order, I'd like to have an option to have my customized order of the playlists both in my library and while adding songs to playlists.

Indeed, it's not a solution but I was just wondering what you try to do.

So I will create a folder called "by length", I will add 3 playlists and order them by length manually, I will check that they don't have the same order alphabetically also.

Then I will choose custom order and that should not work, try it tomorrow.

Regards,

René

Hi,

I did the test and you are right. The order works but not when adding a new song.

I have a folder called "by length" with 3 playlists:

Desktop

New

Lost+found

I ordered them on length (which is a custom order).

If I order by name, it's order by name, if I select custom order it works also.

See this video:

Custom order

Now I add a song to the playlist. The first time "desktop" is on top, then I add a song to "lost+found", the next time, this one is on top when I add a song.

Add song to playlist

What to do next. Since this does not work the way we want you could create a new idea and add a reference to this thread. You have to mention that it's only an issue for custom sort.

Other people can vote for this new idea and the more people give a vote, the more likely it will be implemented.

René

Got my vote bud

Great. Thanks 4loh7509 /Gig Goer for making the new idea for voting. Got my vote!

I posted my comment from here to push it.

Edit: Nevermind

Why in the world did you make playlists SO HARD TO FIND
The rule of don't fix whats not broken applies here. I knew EXACTLY where my playlists were now they are all discombobulated throughout in different orders on my desktop and now on my android. Finding a playlist is like trying to find Jesus and he died a VERY long time ago....

To make matters worse, before you had a "Drop-Down" menu which was perfect as you just had to click it to show recently played, organize playlists by how you listed / ordered them"

Now for Android you need to scroll down for it to show. This is great in "theory" however for those that use Android as an OS for devices like Samsung TV's, Soundbars, etc" There is no way to do this with a bluetooth keyboard as it is not touch. How do we make a suggestion to fix these bugs. Who wants to spend hours organizing a playlist when you used to be able to do it in 1-2 steps.

Hi @LiquidGroup,

not sure what you mean exactly. Please post your question over here.

The community will definantly get you on the right track.

Thanks,

René

Wow, how on earth would anyone be able to find the Filter option on their own, it is so hidden! But when I click on the Filter option, nothing happens. No options appear after hitting Filter. So, what is it for?

I see on an iPhone how to press filter on playlist and edit your order.  BUT can't find the same option on my MAC computer.  Is there a way to choose the order of your playlist. I keep looking and searching

Hi ShantiKat22,

Are you talking about ordering the songs on a playlist, or ordering the playlists themselves?

On Spotify for Mac (and for Windows), you can only reorder playlists by clicking and dragging the order in the left-hand sidebar. For ordering songs on a playlist, you can click and drag songs to re-order the Default sorting, or just click on the column header to order by that parameter.

So if you want to sort your playlist by artist, click on the word 'Artist' on that column, and it will sort the playlist alphabetically ascending. Click it again to sort descending. Click it once more and it will revert to the Default sorting. You can do this for Title, Artist, or any other column on a playlist.

Note that sorting by columns is only cosmetic for your view, and does not affect how a playlist is ordered in its Default state. What I mean by that is the Default sort of a playlist affects how others view playlists when they first view it. It also affects the four song artworks chosen for the playlist cover, if no custom cover is uploaded.

So if you have a playlist full of songs, but you click the Artist header and sort alphabetically by artist, and then send me the link, when I open the playlist, I won't see the playlist sorted alphabetically by artist, but by the Default sort. Now, I can sort it myself as I want, but again it's only cosmetic for my view, and won't affect how it's sorted for you. Also, if you want to change the four song artworks displayed on the playlist cover, you will need to click and drag the songs into the order you want. Merely ordering by a column will not change the four displayed. The first four songs of a playlist in its Default state will be used for the playlist cover.

If you want to create a playlist and sort a certain way (alphabetical title, etc.), an easy way to adjust the Default sort would be to follow these steps:

1. Put all the songs on a playlist

2. Sort by a column of your choosing

3. Select all songs, click and drag (or copy / paste) into a new playlist

Doing that will copy the songs over to a new playlist sorted the way they were displayed on the initial playlist. This will determine the Default state of the playlist, and sending the playlist to others will allow them to see the playlist as you want them to, initially at least. Note that the behavior of click-and-drag is to copy. You won't delete the songs off the first playlist by dragging them to another playlist.

Hope that helps!

my order of playlists is fixed to most recently created to oldest, it cannot be listed in my prefered order, why is this?

Hey there @peedee-boy,

Thank you for your post in this thread.

Can you let us know what order you'd like to have?

It would also be great if you could provide us a screenshot of the options you have in sort/filter so that we can have a closer look directly from our end.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers!

there are no options to sort, no filter, just a list of playlists with the most recently created at the top

Hey again @peedee-boy,

Thank you for your reply and for the screenshot.

If you enter a playlist, do you have the option to filter in the playlist?

We also want to confirm that it's not currently possible to customize your start screen, but there's an idea about this. You can head over to this idea and leave a +VOTE and Subscribe to the thread for any updates.

Keep us posted 🙂

Take care!

not sure what i'm voting for here, the fact it's been put on hold with no further action planned or the fact that i would like some action to be planned?

each playlist itself has the filter option and is also able to sort by title, artist, album, date and track length, but there is no option to change the order of the playlists themselves.

Hey again @peedee-boy,

Thank you for your reply and feedback.

We're always testing things by adding or removing features to make Spotify better overall and constantly aiming to improve our features.

Can you try to drag the playlists from a PC and see if that works?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

recently added
name
custom order

on the Mac...nothing!

Hey @peedee-boy,

Thank you for getting back in touch with us.

Votes are there so that Spotify Staff can see the interest of the idea. Spotify Staff looks into ideas once it reaches the necessary amount of votes.

Can you let us know which version of the app you have?

Cheers!
