SPOTIFY IS SLOW!!!!

SPOTIFY IS SLOW!!!!

I have been a paid Spotify user for a long time now but I am considering canceling my account because it has been so slow recently. Seems to take several minutes to load my playlists, takes several minutes for a song to start playing, etc. I have done everything I can think of to troubleshoot. I have even hard reset my phone and reinstalled Spotify. Anyone else having these issues?

Hey there and thanks for your question 🙂
You tried clean reinstall?

If no help, I will escalate!!

Same issue here, takes ages to access playlists. Overall performance is very poor!

slow slow slow... usually needs killing off and restarting too 😕

is anything going to be done? and no "do a clean install" is not an acceptable answer, have already done about 5 in the couple of years I've been paying for premium, surely it should either work or set a optimum download limit and relative pricing structure

Found out that the sd card was my problem.

This. ^

Search NEVER works first time for me. It always says it's failed after a minute or so. Hit try again and it's instant.

Tried changing sd card too on a galaxy s3 and my m8, no different after you build back up offline downloads still slows down. To be honest I feel paying €120 a year, this app should be a Ferrari of an app, it's a great service no doubt about that, but the app has serious limitations

I got the same issue for quite some time now, would really appreciate a fix! I'll check my SD Card but I don't think there's anything wrong with it...

Like almost everyone else here, I have also been moving my songs from Spotify into Google Play Music. All of my playlists are downloaded onto an SD card which has a 40mb/s read rate.

Android Spotify Load Times:

Opening App - 15 seconds

Loading 7 Playlist Names - 20 seconds

Playing First Song - 30 seconds

Bluetooth Disconnect * Reconnect - 90 seconds

Google Play Music Load Times:

Opening App - 6 seconds

Loading 6 Playlists - 5 seconds

Playing First Song - 3 seconds

No BT disconnect & reconnect needed

Here is why I think this lag happens.

1. Spotify doesn't hire good coders

2. Spotify is extremely resource intensive

3. Spotify doesn't know how to integrate with Android

4. Spotify only cares about record labels and checks all your song licenses before it will play anything or load even if the song is downloaded

I appreciate you posting actual times for each of these activities. I think it really helps display the problem.

I have been using Google music for a long time now, since my post about converting. I have had a lot of success with it, and recommend checking it out if you are frustrated.

The interface of Google Music is a little more clumsy in my opinion, but overall I feel the service is superior. My start-up and run times are close to yours. The ability to upload your own music to Google's service has been really helpful, and allows me to stream albums Google doesn't have, wherever I am.

I'm having the same issue with my LG G3. Spotify is incredibly slow, sometimes I have to kill the app and start it again to make it work until it slows down again. As a premium member I wonder why should I keep paying for this crap. OS Info: stock Android 4.4.2 Spotify version: 2.2.0.636 External SD Card: 64GB Kingston Class 10 read 34MB/s write 14MB/s Is there any solution?

Hey baldo,

How man Songs did you store on the SD Card? And which quality? Because I get the issue when I download like 1000-2000 songs, getting worse the more songs there are. Quality is high for me.

I only have 800 offline but the support guys logged into mine for an unrelated issue and reckon mine's slow because of the number of playlists (it syncs all tracklistings) at some 300 playlists and maybe 30k tracks.

Sure, that could be the issue, but why does it only affect android that way? Why is there no attempt to address the issue?

The whole point of the service is to serve as your primary music source. That means making lots of playlists.

Totally agree. I'll see if I can find the message to put it in context when I'm next at my computer.

Found it! I was having an issue with albums not coming up in Search, but being able to reach them through playlists at the time:

druckerkabel, I have 1000 songs stored in my sd card in high quality. I have an ipod touch 5 and it never slows down, I tested it with 2000 songs and it's always snappy. It's an android issue, it seems like iOS gets more attention.

Thanks for the reply, that just confirms my theory then. So it is an android spotify issue/bug with many songs/data/playlists on an external SD card... I wish Spotify did something about it. I am already in contact with support but all they did so far is delete my devices registration and tell me to redownload all songs...

I've had it with Spotify. I have been with Spotify for 6 years.

I have a Glaxy S4, a more than capable phone. Yet the app take's ages to do anything!.

I've been hanging on by a thread, but with the latest release of the desktop version I has put a rocket underneath me!

So dissapointed. I feel like they do what they want without a care for their customers.

Im gonna give Google Music a go.

Before you do anything please read the guide linked below for details on the most common issues and how to fix them. Usually a clean install is the first step to take and resolves most of the usual issues; the guide details the steps to take to ensure a full 'clean installation' is achieved - This includes checking redundant folders and a REBOOT!
