Sangean wont connect

My Sangean Radio appears in the list of devices which can be used in the app, but it doesn't connect. Up until recently this worked fine for years...

Hi there @Dunkfan111,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • The exact makes, models and OS/Firmware versions of all your affected devices
  • The exact Spotify Versions you use.
  • When did this start happening?
  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?
  • Screenshots or a video of the behaviour

With this information, weโ€™d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Sorry I'm only replying to this now!
The problem had disappeared, now in January 2024 its back again, something to do with the Year (date) perhaps?
Sangean spotify version master-v1.5.10-gf400c186
Sangean WFR-27C
SW Version ir-mmi-FS2026-0500-0093_V2.6.17c4.EX53330-1RC6

So while still trying, I did a factory reset on the Sangean.
For the moment it seems to have done the trick...
Thanks!

Ill have to take you up on that offer. Seems I'm always needing a factory reset to make it work. Lasts for about a day!
Any help welcome.

Thanks for returning @Dunkfan111!

Does this only happen on all devices or only on specific one(s)? Have you by any chance tried with a different account (a relative's or a friend's)?

If the issue persists, it'd be great if you could send over a video recording so we can take a look. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. If the attachment is too big - we'd suggest that you upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it) or upload it as unlisted YouTube video(s).

We'll be on the lookout for your response.

It only happens on this one device. The device does work with multiple accounts when it allows connecting. I don't know whether it will when it gets 'stuck' Here is a video. BTW the spotify android app will not connect either. Both spotify apps, linux and Android are up to date. https://drive.google.com/file/d/17W4_1_6Ly93KoVHIJIH6GLtdNUH4YOmo/view?usp=drivesdk

Hey @Dunkfan111,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

Just to confirm, does this happen over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both? Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet connection you're using? If possible, you can create a hotspot on your phone and connect your Sangean to it. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

According to your device manual, you need to ensure your radio has the Keep Network Connected option turned on to enable Spotify Connect to access the radio in Standby mode or non-network mode (DAB/ FM/ Aux-In).  By default, your radio will shut down its WiFi connection when it is on standby.

That minimizes power consumption, but it also means that you'll need to switch that radio on manually in order to use either the 'Play to' function or any other remote control software (like Spotify Connect). You can choose to keep the network connected by using the โ€˜Keep connectedโ€™ option in the network setting menu.

We'd suggest you double-check your deviceโ€™s user manual or the manufacturerโ€™s support site as a firmware upgrade may be required.

Lastly, as a friendly reminder: we don't officially support devices running on Linux OS.

Keep us in the loop!
