Hello there,

Thanks for reaching out via the Community and welcome to the forum! There could be different reasons for this error message so let's try some troubleshooting together.

If you've not done this already, could you give the app a clean reinstall with the steps here? It's more detailed than a regular one and helps resolve different performance issues. There could be some damaged cache which is causing this behavior.

You could also test with another internet connection (WiFi > mobile data and vice versa) to see if that will make a difference.

If the behavior doesn't change, let us know what error message you're seeing exactly and if the same thing happens on another device.

Keep us posted.

Hello my app is not opening on my android also show9ng a message that it contains a bug,  I therefore followed the thread to reinstall the app in the hopes of cleaning it up, However you state in your reply to this other user that reinstall9ng will mean all downloaded content will be wiped and my spotify account will be back to factory settings. And that I should download all that content again. This is not what I expect to have to do, that is a lot of work.  What else can you suggest. I have used the app for years, does this mean I will lose my playlists, if i do reinstall?

Hey there @Lilystar71,

Thanks for posting here and welcome.

We'll add some insights first. Keep in mind that clean reinstalling the app does not affect the content you've saved to your library. All the content saved is going to stay there. Now, remember that the downloaded content gets stored in the cache memory of your device. Clean reinstalling the app means clearing the cache memory of the app and that's why all the content you've downloaded (the one you set to listen to when you're offline) gets removed.

In that sense, if you're unable to open the app on your Android device, we highly recommend you perform a clean reinstall to make sure the stored cache is not leading to any issues. We understand is not ideal if your downloaded content gets removed, but this process will help solve most issues. You can follow the steps in this article to do it.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The make/model and OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running.
  • A screenshot of the message you see when trying to open the app.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?

Keep us in the loop!
