My Question or Issue

Just recently my songs have been skipping completely or just starting over, it ranges from 1 second to the whole song. I've tried uninstalling, clearing my cache, restarting my phone, and my app is updated so im not sure what the problem is or how to fix it.

Hello how are you?

Welcome to the Spotify Community! I'm happy to have you here 🙂

Does the web player show the same behavior? In any case, we'd recommend updating/reinstalling your audio drivers and checking your Windows hosts file using this guide.

Keep me informed, so I can keep helping you!

Cheers

Hi there @Berksys,

Thanks for your reply in this thread.

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If not, I'd recommend starting with a clean reinstallation of the app. No worries, you won't lose any saved content, but you might have to re-download your offline music.

Now, if the issue persists, does it happen all the time? And are you listening directly from the phone speakers or are you using an external speaker or headphones?

Lastly, it's worth checking if this happens on a different device. You can log in to your account and check if the behavior is present there as well. It can be a relative's or friend's device.

Let us know how that goes.

The issue is still occuring, and it's completely fine on other devices. Anything else I can do?

Thanks for your prompt reply @Berksys,

Does it happen all the time? And are you listening directly from the phone speakers or are you using an external speaker or headphones?

On another note, send over a video or recording of the issue and let us know the Spotify version you have installed. We'll take a look.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

Ive tried wiping the file spotify from the data folder in my phone, reinstalled another APK of a couple older versions. They ended up not making any difference, its the exact same. And I used both internal and external speakers both doing the same thing.

Hi, @Berksys,

Have you tried using another Wi-Fi network or tested with mobile data? You can also ask a friend or a relative to create a mobile hotspot for you to connect to.

If possible, you can also ask someone who uses Spotify to log in to their account on your device - this will help us determine of the issue is account- or device-related.

In any case, a short screen recording which captures the described behavior in action, along with the exact version of Spotify you're running would also be greatly appreciated. If the file's too large to attach here in your reply, you can instead upload it to YouTube as an unlisted video or to Google Drive - just make sure you set it to be available to anyone with the link.

Let us know how it goes 👍.

Here is the video. The version is 9.0.60.128 in the video. I updated it back to the latest version and its still doing the same thing again, so im really not sure. Using different wifis left it to be the same.

Appreciate the cooperation and video @Berksys.

Is it a particular playlist that this is happening with? Could you test with another one?

It would be very helpful if you could ask a relative or a friend to log in to their account in the Spotify app on your phone as suggested by @Yordan in this comment. This is on order to help us determine if the issue is account- or device-related.

Hope to hear from you soon.

I had a look, and yeah its fine on other mobile devices. Other playlists are all the same. Im really positive its a device issue, but idk what more I can clear from my phone.

Thanks for the response @Berksys.

You previously mentioned that you don't experience the same behavior on other devices, so it seems that this is in fact most probably a device-related issue.

We really appreciate everything you've tested so far, but just to be on the safe side, please perform a clean reinstall once again with the steps here. Make sure to also delete the cache as when it's corrupted, it can cause different issues with Spotify's performance.

Something important worth mentioning is to remove your SD-card from your device (if you're using one) before the clean reinstall and then check if the same behavior persists without it.

Lastly, if these steps make no difference, we think it could be worth asking a relative or a friend to log in to their Spotify-account on your phone.

Take your time with these suggested steps and we will continue to investigate together.

In the meantime, we're here if anything else comes up.

Ive done the steps once again. Didn't work out, I even tried another account and it's doing the same. So its basically confirmed device issue.

Hey @Berksys,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

In a previous message you mentioned that you're using an APK on your device. So to make sure you're using the official version of the app, we'd recommend fully uninstalling the current version and downloading the official version of the app from your Google Play Store directly. Bear in mind that if you're using an APK it may affect the proper behavior of the app.

If the issue persists using the official version of the app, we'd recommend performing a factory reset of your phone since this is a device-related issue.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

I'm getting the exact same thing. I just got a Galaxy Flip 5 and it's jumping past 4+ songs every time I swipe to the next song. Really frustrating, no idea what is wrong. Must be related to an update if we both got this in the past 2 days ,right?

I am also experiencing this on a brand new Motorola Edge 60, everything official

Hi @geffry, @FinalMantasyX,

Thanks for the replies.

Can you please confirm if this only happens on the new devices or if it happened on older/other ones too? This issue seemed to be device related for other users, so we'd like to see if it's the same for you. If you haven't tested on other devices, please do so.

Let us know how it goes.

My Question or Issue

For the past couple of weeks the app skips songs on its own. Mostly the same songs in a given playlist, but sometimes it skips others. I'd say 99% of the songs are skipped, whether it's a playlist, "my music" or random songs. Yes, I've uninstalled the app with a clean reinstall but nothing works.
I've tried the web player and it works fine but when I try to change the device listening to the song and put the Android app, it just stops playing on both and the "now listening" bar disappears.
I thought the latest update would fix it but I keep having the same problem.

Hey there @sgltu,

Thanks for reaching out!

Would you mind confirming the exact Spotify version you're currently running? Also, is this happening when the app is open, running in the background or both?

We'd suggest giving it a try using a different mobile device, this will help us see if the issue is related to your phone specifically.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
