My Question or Issue

Spotify versions tested: latest 9.1.x, older 9.0.x and 8.9.x APKs

Issue started immediately after the recent Spotify redesign/update (new icon/UI). The Android app became unstable and partially unusable.

Symptoms:

  • “Something went wrong” errors
  • Home page fails to load properly
  • playlists appear empty
  • album artwork often missing
  • songs instantly skip before playback starts
  • previously buffered/cached songs may still play
  • app partially loads account/library data but dynamic content fails

Important observations:

  • Spotify works perfectly on PC
  • Spotify Web Player works on the same phone
  • YouTube Music works normally on the same phone
  • other apps work normally
  • issue only affects Spotify Android app
  • new Spotify accounts initially worked but later developed similar playback skipping issues

Troubleshooting already done:

  • full factory reset
  • left Android beta program
  • confirmed stable Android build
  • Play Protect certified device
  • cleared cache/storage
  • reinstall multiple times
  • tested mobile data and Wi-Fi
  • removed VPN/DNS settings
  • removed third-party Spotify integrations/apps
  • sign out everywhere
  • tested multiple Spotify APK versions (8.x, 9.x)

My Question or Issue

For the past few days, when I open the app, I get the something went wrong error. I have rebooted, done a clean install.  Nothing  I am able to get in on the web, and if I log in with another account it works just fine

Hey @pfsf,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

In this type of case, we'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app, making sure you're installing the official and most updated version of the app from Google Play directly. Keep in mind that we don't recommend installing other versions of the app or from a different source as it may interfere with the proper functionality of the app.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

I've  already tried that

Hey again @pfsf,

Since the clean reinstall didn't help and it's only your account on that device that is facing issues, the culprit here is likely outside of Spotify's own data. A couple of things to try:

  • Clear your Android WebView data - This has its own cached data separate from the app. Go to Settings → Apps → Android System WebView (or Chrome if that's your WebView provider) and clear both cache and data.
  • Check Settings → Accounts - if your Spotify account was ever linked via Google or Samsung sign-in, remove it from there too and try to sign in again.
  • Verify installation directory - Make sure Spotify is not installed in a secure folder/ section of your device or an SD card.

Let us know how it goes! We'll be on the lookout 🙂

Still not working

Hey again @pfsf,

We did a deeper look into what you're experiencing and can confirm that a fresh installation via the Google Play app store should now make a difference. It's also a good idea to follow the entire complete clean reinstall process as well.

Should the issues remain on your side, let us know 🙂 Cheers!

I did that before no luck. This time seems to have fixed the . I did one
thing discern this time, don't know if that's why it worked, but this
time I turned the phone off and then restarted it. Last time I just did a
restart.
Anyhow thank you, seems like it's working now.

I can't use my app like it's showing something went wrong error on the homepage itself. I tried clearing cache of the app, reinstalled the app restarted my device, again cleared cache, reinstalled the app again but it still occurs. Whereas my account is functioning correctly on web.

Update: It's working as expected now

Hey @Jokkebomberi,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

We appreciate all the info you've included and the troubleshooting you've tried. This behavior you mentioned could be related to an error that was already corrected with the app version.

So we'd highly recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app again, making sure you're installing its official version from the Google Store directly. Keep in mind that we do not recommend installing older or unofficial versions of the app (APKs) as we cannot assure its proper functionality.

If the issue persists, since you recently left the Android Beta program, we'd also recommend waiting 24 hours after the clean reinstall to try again, since this process may take some time.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, don't hesitate to ask.

Device: Xiaomi 14T Pro

Operating System: Android 16

Spotify App Version: v9.1.50.1903 (Issue started immediately following the recent UI redesign and new app icon update)

My Question or Issue: I am experiencing the exact same cascade of symptoms on my Xiaomi 14T Pro. The behavior didn't worsen over time; it became entirely unstable the moment the app updated to the new layout/icon framework.

  • Playback Skipping: Songs instantly skip to the next track before loading. Note: Sometimes it will randomly manage to load and play audio, but most of the time it forces an infinite skip loop accompanied by "Something went wrong" errors.

  • UI Broken: The Home page completely fails to load dynamic content, playlists appear entirely empty, and album art is missing across the board.

Observations & Troubleshooting Tried:

  • This issue is entirely localized to the Android client. The Web Player on the same device and the PC desktop client work flawlessly on this exact Free account.

  • Fully cleared app data/cache and reinstalled multiple times, which did not resolve the broken state.

It seems like a major API handling or account handshake defect introduced directly inside the new redesign build architecture.

@OscarDC

I am experiencing the exact same cascade of symptoms on a Xiaomi 14T Pro running Android 16 on the official Google Play Store build (v9.1.50.1903, Free plan).

Just like the OP, this didn't start as a gradual glitch—everything broke the exact moment the app updated to the new redesign layout and changed the app logo.

My Symptoms match perfectly:

  • Infinite Track Skipping: Tracks instantly skip to the next song before playback can fully initialize, throwing "Something went wrong" errors. Intermittently, a track might randomly load audio, but it usually just forces a massive skip loop.

  • Broken UI Elements: The Home feed completely fails to fetch dynamic content, playlists load completely blank, and album artwork is missing.

Troubleshooting Attempted:

  • Followed the official advice: left the beta program, waited well over 24 hours, and performed multiple thorough clean reinstalls (clearing all data/cache before uninstalling).

  • Tested on both stable Wi-Fi and mobile data networks.

Since this is happening across different device brands (Pixel and Xiaomi) but sharing the exact same Android 16 environment and breaking specifically on the new UI framework update, this looks like a severe API handshake or framework defect in the new build rather than a standard local caching issue.

Hopefully, the team can escalate this to the Android developers, as the app is currently completely unusable on this OS version.

started off just some songs unable to play, now it's nothing at all after re installing, seemingly after latest OS update

I gave a Google pixel 9, hopefully Spotify can work with and communicate with each phone's developer and find a quick fix as music helps me mentally and at the gym to focus

Hi folks,

Thanks for the replies.

@TheHawk you mentioned that your version is 9.1.50.1903 - is this still the case after the reinstalls and after leaving the Beta program? Because the latest version is supposed to be 9.1.48, so it's possible you were still on the Beta version, hence the issues. Please try exiting the program again and going back to the latest official version and double check which one it is. If you get .48, then see if you still encounter any issues.

@Reece17 please follow the steps in @OscarDC's earlier reply, this should help get things sorted for you.

Hope this helps.

Hi @Joan,

To clarify, v9.1.50.1903 is indeed the latest Beta build, which I am currently running to see if the issue has been patched.

When I follow your advice—completely unenroll from the Beta program and do a clean reinstall from the Google Play Store—the store successfully rolls me back to the stable public version, v9.1.44.2120.

Here is the critical data point for the team:

  • On the stable public rollback (v9.1.44.2120), everything works perfectly.

  • On the Beta branch (v9.1.50.1903), the app is completely broken (infinite track skipping, blank Home feed, empty playlists).

This entire cascade of issues started exactly on the specific beta build where the new 20th-anniversary logo and UI redesign were first introduced (about a week ago). There have been a few minor beta updates pushed to the Play Store since then, but none of them have fixed this underlying Android 16 conflict.

Since multiple testers on Android 16 are reporting the exact same breakdown on the current beta track, could you please pass this up to the QA/Beta engineering team? It looks like the new anniversary UI framework has a severe API handshake bug specifically on Android 16 devices.

Hey @TheHawk,

Thanks for taking the time to test and for all the additional info, we really appreciate it!

Since this doesn't happen on the regular app version and affects the latest Beta one even after a complete clean reinstall, we've made sure to pass all the input you've provided to the respective team looking into this, so they can have a closer look. Thanks again for the cooperation!
