Description

Spotify no longer working on Nexus 5 with newly updated Android Lollipop

Spotify worked perfectly on my Nexus 5... however, once I upgraded to 5.0  lollipop and tried using it, it comes up to a screen that's blank except for the spotify logo and a sandwich menu icon in the corner. Nothing else happens.

1 Upgraded to Android 5.0 from 4.4.4 on Nexus 5

I'm having the same issue on my HTC one m8. This is now coupled with the going offline issue because of the T-Mobile ipv6 spotify has become a worthless pos .

Seem to be having the same issue as pcarenza and others, except on the Motorola Moto X.

Spotify stops working intermittently. Only shows an empty menu and the sandwich button.

Tried that a couple times, and seems like everyone else did too. Doesn't work.

Maybe I found a work around. When you get the black screen, close the app down, pull your drop down menu and turn off mobile data, open spotify and wait for your playlists and then turn mobile data back on. It's worked everytime for me. Let me know fellas.

Here with a GPE HTC One M7. I have the same issue on Android 5.0.1. It seems like it can't open when on a bad 3G/LTE connection... But when opened successfully it's working all the time...

This worked for me too. Thanks! Now fix it, Spotify.

As i said when i commented on this post, i believe that this issue is cause because of some connection methods of android that are now deprecated. Problably spotify needs to fix the connection methods used when the app opens.

Hi,

I'm having the same issue. Nexus 4 with Lollipop update. I find it's an issue when I've got slow (2G) or no data, even though a lot of my music is offline sync'd.

It works, but this shouldn't have to be done for me to use the app. This is, at best, a temporary workaround. Thanks though. Hopefully Spotify will fix this issue...

I just updated my phone to 5.0.1, HTC one M8 with GPE and the application won´t work at all.

I was a clean install and I tried reinstalling several times with no luck. It complains about not finding an SD, which it´s there. And then it dies.

Spotify please fix it.

So you can't open Spotify at all?

It's correct. I can't open it at all.

I was running 5.0.1 GPE on my M8 a few days ago with no problem. I suspect your SD cache may be at fault. Can you run a clean install fllowing the guid elinked below and ensure that you check the cache folder is deleted from your SD Card?

Android Troubleshooting:
[COMPLETE GUIDE] How to fix most Android issues
Spotify Android Version History

Just wanted to mention that I have been having this problem since upgrading to lollipop too. It's been a few months now, so I hope this is brought to the devs attention. It's annoying paying £10 a month for an app that only half works.

Just wanted to mention in case anyone is reading this thread, that I had this problem too (rooted, HTC One M8 5.0) but after reinstalling it, it works.

Marked as solution

I had the same issue after updating to Android 5.0 Lollipop on my Samsung Galaxy S5, but solved it easy today.

Seems to be a common Lollipop-issue.

I did the following to solve the issue:

1. Uninstalled Spotify

2. Deleted the folder com.spotify.music under ../../Android/data

3. Rebooted the device

4. Reinstalled Spotify

PROBLEM SOLVED!

You loose your preferences and downloaded playlists by doing this, but at least you have a working Spotify Music app.

Sorry but the issue that i had was not resolved with this, neither with a device factory reset. The issue was not linked to any cached file. I was able to reproduce in device that never had spotify.

Hi, I had the same issue.
And no Spotify folder in android/data.
But I succeed.
Basically, I've uninstall the non working Spotify, I've deleted the complete folder data on my SD card, reboot and reinstall Spotify.
And hourra

Uninstal spotify
Unmounting sd
Install spotify
Mount sf card
worked for me. Not able to use SD for storage of music Thou.
