My Question or Issue
So I just noticed this happening today when I was in the gym listening to spotify and going on tiktok between my exercises. Usually if I close out of tiktok or put my phone to sleep, Spotify will automatically start playing again so I can resume my workout without having to tap play again. For some reason now, it is not working and I have to manually use the sound controls to resume playback.
I have tried resetting the app, clearing cache, re-installing the app, restarting the phone none of that has worked so far. I did not mess with any settings nor do I see any settings in spotify or setttings app that could affect this. Not sure what to do now.

I found the solution. It seems this issue was exclusive to tiktok only and reinstalling the app solved it.
Barking good to see you William_T!
If Spotify is not resuming playback after using another app, you can try logging out and logging back in again to force sync data. It’s also important that all the necessary permissions for the app are enabled. In case you’re using any battery optimization or power saving apps, you should try to deactivate them for Spotify.
I'm all ears and my tail's a-waggin' for updates,
