Spotify randomly autoplays

Spotify randomly autoplays

Hi,

I'm using Spotify free on an Android phone. Since Saturday 5th July, Spotify starts up ar random times. It's happened in the middle of the night which I find most annoying, but it's also happened in work, and it starts up quite loudly and is difficult to shut it up as there's no 'mini-player' in the notifications area or on the lock screen which there normally is when I've turned it on myself. I've had to delete it because I there's no way I can stop it going off in the middle of the night. Turning my phone off at night isn't an option. Turning the sound down doesn't work, it overrides my sound settings and plays it loud! I can't remember the exact date of the latest update, but I do think it's connected as it was definitely very close to when the problem started.

I've checked the settings and there's no option to disable auto-play.

I've deleted all recent apps, so it's not in the background.

It was suggested by the Spotify team on the Android Play Store to post the details here.

Claire.

I have an galaxy s4. I have noticed if I pause a song it will randomly start to play hours later or if I swipe the phone to unlock it. However if I close out the app it doesn't do that only if a song has been paused. It started this a few days prior to July 4th.

Hey @kim111973 Does it always start to play when you unlock or just sometimes?

It only seems to happen if a song is paused and it starts backup whenever the phone is unlocked. To me the app is acting like it's in idle mood during that time.

Sorry, I mean, if you have paused playback does it always start playing every time you unlock your phone?

Yes. It just started doing this a couple weeks ago. I never had this problem before. It even did once while I was asleep and started playing after I received a email notification.

That's really helpful thanks.

I'm trying a reinstall now, but this happens to me as well. Occasionally when I open the app whatever song is on automatically starts playing (usually when it is a suggested track), and it started playing randomly in the middle of the night once after I received a notification that someone was following one of my playlists (the app wasn't open at the time).

My phone runs android version 4.1.1

Thanks for mentioning the notification @wahoo650 - another clue 🙂

When ever Someone adds a new song to a playlist I follow that is when a song autoplays so that is what happens.

My Spotify was autoplaying songs or radio that was paused on my second device, so it looks like there is some bug with Spotify Connect.
After last update Spotify stopped working on that device (old XT720), so my problem is "solved".
It's mega frustrating bug, especially when you are on a meeting or having phone call and your music starts playing on its own.

Hopefully I'm not jinxing anything, but I turned off all my push notifications, and it's been 3 days since it last started randomly playing.

My phone just started blaring Prodigy at 3:45 am. Glad I'm not the only one this has happened to. I was freaked out a bit.

Not trying to throw a wrench in the feed, but this has happened on my macbook pro as well. Plus it plays songs that are not in my library. It starts up randomly when it was not even running in the background. It's playing songs I love, so I'm saving them to my library, so that's good, lol. But it's random and weird. All it says is "queue" and "history", but don't know where the songs are coming from.

This is happening to me now with a Samsung Galaxy S7, random songs and its creating new playlists for each of these song collaborations or that is another issue.  I deleted all my cache and then uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but as long as I am logged into the app it keeps happening.

Same here: I use Spotify connect with my Yamaha AVR (from iPhone 5s), I do listen to some music in the afternoon, stop doing that, and a while later the AVR begins playing on its own, weird thing. Bug?

I'm not so sure anymore that it is a bug, recently my account was hacked
and they changed my email address. Now, I just stay logged out of it.

Same thing has now happened to me twice. No idea what is casing it. Samsung S7 with Android 7.0
