Thank you for your replies in this thread.

There's an idea about disable/hide podcasts - [All Platforms][Podcasts] Option to disable or hide podcasts entirely. If you'd like to, you can leave a +VOTE and Subscribe to the thread.

If you have any more specific idea on how we can improve the app and you think your suggestion will appeal to other users you can always create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app.

What a horribly patronising reply @Jeremy.

It's not "things not working as we'd like them" it's "having garbage we don't want shoved at us every time we open the app"

It's not a bug report we're discussing here, it's a straight up UX decision you've obviously made.

If you really believe that Podcasts are going to be such a strong part of your product that have the strength to stand alone, show the faith you have by allowing us to hide them.  At the moment your apps just look deperate. "Podcats are cool, really, here we'll shove another load in your face please love them we're banking on them very heavily"

If you really think Podcasts are so great, make another app for them.  We both know that you won't, because it's obvious you're trying to capture marketshare from other Podcast apps/services - and your strategy to do that is to shove them in the feed front and centre.

Be straight up. Don't post these patronising replies.

It's not intended to do us any good, it's intended to appear as if they're engaged with the community, which looks good on paper. By redirecting people to another idea they've already shot down, they get an increased amount of activity in the community forums AND get to ignore the request at the same time.

Which is fortunate for them, as their management is telling them to shove juvenile political podcasts down everyone's throat to reap in-podcast ad money. Unsatisfied with the fees they're already charging people, they'd like to pull the old "cable TV" move and do ads PLUS monthly fees, and the only way that happens is if they can dupe us into listening to this podcast drivel.

Hi music lovers,

Have read through all the replies and am appreciating everyone's clarity and passion.

This podcast issue was bothering me so much that I switched to Apple Music despite generally preferring to avoid Apple products as much as possible. I made the switch 10 months ago and am soooo happy I did. The Apple Music interface is different of course and took some getting used to, but it actually works beautifully and the app has learnt quickly what I like and feeds that back to me, as well as helping me discover new music related to my choices.

And there are NO PODCASTS. 

(By the way I actually  do listen to a lot of podcasts but I use a couple of podcasting apps for that and they handle the task way better than the Spotify app, plus my music listening experience is not muddled and obstructed by mixing the two kinds of content.)

Hey just in case anyone was wondering, the reason Spotify is pushing the podcasts so heavily is because they earn a lot of their revenue now from ads in their exclusive podcasts. So I guess the advertisers are the real customers now, and the app users are the product... Kinda like Facebook's business model?

I agree, have the same problem. I keep being recommended some celebratory pod about Karl Marx and different obnoxious nerd pods about video games that I have 0 interest in. It's really in the way and sours my morning when I arrive at work. Get it out of my face, please.

Wow, disgraceful, Spotify. I’ve paid for the Premium Family account for 4+ years now, but I’m fed up with all this podcast garbage. Never listened to a podcast and never will. I pay you for music, not garbage talk show. Why shove this down our throats when we don’t want it, without allowing us a way to opt out? We are taking our family subscription to Apple Music, which integrates better with all our devices anyway. You’ve lost my business for your unwillingness to address this glaring issue after years…

If this whole thread reveals anything, it's that Spotify makes big money pushing racist white supremacist podcasts and sending juvenile, pornographic talk shows to kids; They don't want to do anything to correct this, it's all business as expected.

We're no longer the customer here, we've become the product that also happens to pay for the privilege. They don't need to care about the herd at this point.

Been migrating my family plan members away from Spotify before I shut it down. If it were just me, I'd have cut it out six months ago when they kept shoving this kind of trash in my face every time I open it.

I, premium Spotify customer since a lot of years,  listen to a lot of podcasts since decades, but using a dedicated player. I really hate that Spotify commercializing the podcast idea. I wouldn't mind that much if Spotify didn't shove it into my face each time I start the app knowing I can't do anything about it being top of the Homescreen. But now I accidentally tapped on some dumb stupid show and there's no way even to remove that show from the Home Screen! If my family wasn't accustomed to Spotify I would have stopped my contract because of this long ago. 

PLEASE give us the possibility to customize the Home Screen to get rid of this sh*t!

basically just wanted to complain about the fact that on my home page under ‘episodes for you’ there’s usually podcasts that are totally irrelevant or that i’d never listen to anyway, but opening the app today i have a subliminal audio (?) for a ‘slim body’ podcast which i really don’t want to listen to and wish i had the option to remove
