Something not working with the Spotify app after a new release? Please give us your feedback!

There are two parts to identifying, solving and forwarding issues.

  1. Please follow the below troubleshooting steps to see if you can resolve the issue on your own
  2. If troubleshooting doesn't solve your issue, please use the template below to give us your feedback.

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Open Settings and start Application Manager
  2. Look for Spotify and tap it
  3. (FYI, this will remove all downloaded Spotify data from your phone)
    Press "Clear Data"
  4. Uninstall the Spotify app
  5. IMPORTANT: Completely turn off your phone, then turn it back on again
  6. Open up Google's Play Store, locate Spotify and install it again
  7. Start Spotify, log in and have a look if your issue was resolved
    If the issue remains:
  8. Use the search function (top right) to see if anyone has recently reported anything similar to your issue.
  9. If you find that your issue has already been reported, please go to that topic and reply that you are experiencing it as well.
  10. If you did not find a similar topic, continue to step 11
  11. There's a template below; please copy/paste that into a new reply in this thread and add as much info as possible.

Rdio is definately not perfect, but their customer support is top notch.  My biggest issue with the current version of Rdio for Android is a long gap between songs.  They've released a few updates in an attempt to fix this and it's gotten a little better.  You can submit a log from your phone and customer support actually responds!!

I wanted to go with Spotify for their larger catalog and intergrated local music.  They need to get it together with development and customer support.  Each time customer support responds to me, they tell me to follow the same steps (uninstall, wipe, reinstall).  They don't seem to understand that the app is broken and it needs a fix ASAP!!!

well you don't have to worry about spotify's edge of integrated local music, since that capability has been removed.  i think they do understand how bad their app is -- but their support strategy is clearly to deny it and try to convince you that the problem is yours, due to a botched install or something.  like i said -- damage control.  again, i can only conclude that the android platform is not a significant source of revenue.  nothing else makes sense.

Anything being done about the amount of data the app consumes whilst not doing anything?

From my conversations with support, they are definitely aware of all of the bugs and issues, and somehow think their development pace is fast enough. Not sure why they think that, but they do. But let's be honest here, their strategy is not to try to convince you that it's your problem. Things like reinstalling, things like unplugging earphones when testing issues like music stopping, these are meant to be a way to narrow down why an issue is happening.

If you restart your phone and the app works fine? Probably an issue with its memory usage.

If you uninstall and reinstall and it works fine? Pehaps an issue with saved data or cache.

If you unplug the earphones and it's still happening? Definitely an app issue, not a broken headphone issue.

I don't know how else to help though. I just wish they would update every time they squashed a bug.

Description
a) Spotify hangs shortly after starting playing playlist (offline). I played song number 3 when it just stopped. No error messqage - everythin seems to be ok

Screenshot_2012-07-12-08-52-17.png
b) Not using Spotify: phone hangs. After a while: message saying Spotify has stopped responding.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps
Error A - occurs every day now. I just haveto wait a few minutes.
1. I tryed to restart playing the same song. doesn't work.
2. Start another song in the same playlist. It works for a while.

Error B
I choose "Ok".

Did you restart your phone at step 5?
Yes. But I did'nt have to download offline palylists. I have done this twice. Why don't I have to download offline playlists again?

Anything more I can do to help you solve the problem? I cannot continue using Spotify if this continues.

Description

Excessive data use even w/o sync

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

Since July 1 Spotify has been eating data using 3G, 200-400 MB/day. It has been set to no sync over 3G. It uses these amounts even when not used. Setting it to offline stops the data torrent.

July 1 may not be significant in itself; that may be the day I updated to the latest version.

Did you restart your phone at step 5?

Actually, I believe the problem started with updating to the latest version.

This is insane, of course. It has already crashed my data plan for July.

@horvendile - lots of us with the same issue. Only 'solution' at the moment is to make sure Spotify is in Offline mode as soon as you have finished syncing : http://community.spotify.com/t5/Mobile-Android/Spotify-Android-app-using-a-LOT-of-data-on-3G/td-p/46...

Listening on Windows, Android and Sonos. Tweeting it at @davelicence

Yeah, evidently a bit of laziness on my part... or rather, laziness paired with, well, something else; none of my friends seem to have noticed the problem and my operator wasn't clued in either, so I didn't know it was so common and when I didn't immediately see a formal bug report I just barged straight ahead. Oh well! And thanks for the temporary solution of course - it's what I'm already doing, but it's nice (in some strange meaning of the word) to know that there's nothing else to do.

Im getting the same freezing problem.

I play a track thats offline on my android (HOX), and after a while (seems random), it just stops playing. For no reason. Really annoying when working out and don't want to interupt the training.

Started with latest release- never had this issue before. Only way to circumvent this is to go online and stream the music instead of downloading- fine and well while at work/home but not out and about.

What say you Spotify?

I have turned off gapless and crossfade but it did not help.
Maybe I have to use Wimp instead. It is easy to transfer playlists.

Description

-While listening to spotify with headset answering incoming calls disconnect headset and turns on cellphones speaker.

A more detailed description, using numbered steps

1. First I listened to spotify with headset

2. Then I got a call that I tried to answer (no matter if answered from phone or by pressing headset button).

3. I also did this: tried with other software and the headset worked just fine.

Did you restart your phone at step 5?

-Yes

What I expected to happen

-Spotify to pause and let me answer the call

What actually happened

-Spotify disconnected headset. The call was answered but the voice came from speakers and I had to remove the headset and close spotify app to be able to reconnect the headset (and call back to the person who called me). If spotify was still running the microphone of the headset wouldn't work even when the headset was reconnected (sound got through to me but I couldn't communicate with the person called me).

- This happens every time and only with spotify.

As I only got about 2gb storage on my mobile device, and 32 gb on my SD card, why the isn't threre an option, like in the old version to store the cache on my sd card?

Same problem for me.

I suggest that you also register your problem at https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support//

Seems that I'm not alone having this problem. I suggest tht you also register your problem at https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support//

Same problem that I have - it's very frustrating. Do you get any respons from Spotify? I have sent a message as well to https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support// - hope that helps. Otherwise I'll change to Wimp that provides a very similar service - guess there are other services that are similar with better software.

Did you hear from Spotify? I have very similar problem that you have but I cannot see any respons from Spotify on this issue. Maybe I'll get respons from https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support// - I'll see next week.

It angers me as well. What is the use of this thread when Spotify don't respond.

I have used Spotify premium for a long time without the problems I've had the last weeks.

I hope they respond on this link - https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support//

I'm frustrated that there is no official reposns from Spotify on this thread. Maybe you should try sending a message on their support page https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support// ?

Since there is no respons from Spotify - you should perhaps try https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support//?

Since no one from Spotify give any answers - try https://www.spotify.com/no/about-us/contact/contact-spotify-support// as well.
