Why is it impossible to play music stored locally on an android on spotify?

Why is it impossible to play music stored locally on an android on spotify?

Title topic says all. Why am I even still using spotify? Why can't a multimilion dollar company not create a coherent app with normal functionalities? I'm so annoyed with your entire company and it's lack of common sense, if you didn't have a monopoly on this business I would've cancelled this expensive subscription ages ago.

If I'm gonna get a snarky response on this post with no reasonable answer at all/it will get locked up I will cancel my subscription for good since spotify doesn't seem to care about improving their horrible service and I'm tired of being held hostage by poor functionality. How is spotify getting away with this in 2019? No wonder your revenue dropped.

Hi there,

Not to worry! If you're rocking Premium, you can definitely listen to your Local Files on your Android device. You just have to follow these steps:

  • Import your local files to Spotify using the Desktop App
  • Add the files to a playlist
  • Log in your mobile device using the same Wi-Fi Network as your Desktop App
  • Select the playlist containing the local files
  • Switch on Download.

You can find more information about Local files here.

Hope this helps! 🙂

But that's not what I asked for. I want to play local files that are on my mobile phone, not desktop.

Hi, @borovanhout,

Thanks for getting back.

Unfortunately, it's not possible. You can only import your local files from your Desktop, not your smartphone.

You'd have to manually transfer those local files from your Phone to your Desktop, and then follow the steps above to be able to listen to them using your phone.

This topic will provide you more information about it.

However, being able to play files directly from your Android device sounds like a good idea. I’d suggest starting a new thread in the Community Ideas Exchange.

This’ll allow users, Stars, and Moderators to vote and comment on it. 🙂
