android auto not muting/pausing

Hello all,

Is anyone else experiencing a problem using spotify on androidauto and playing messages? I'm using a pioneer 4100nex with Moto X Pure. Anytime I have spotify playing and I play a hangouts message or text the spotify doesn't pause or reduce its volume. I've resorted to manually pausing the music to have the system read messages.
