cannot play offline

I had a subscription because the speakers in my car were shot and I would play Spotify in my car.  I don't use that car anymore, so I cancelled my subscription.  I cannot get spotify to play on my HTC Desire Eye phone.  I figure that there is some setting somewhere that I am missing.  In preferences, play offline is off and in my playlist, the download button is off.  When I try to play a song nothing happens and a message pops up. Free users can not play specific songsand have to use the shuffle button. Further details here.

sorry I should have specified, this is what happens when I hit the shuffle button also which is what i usually use

Ah, OK. Spotify sometimes gets confused when you switch from premium to free but a reinstallation of the app should fix it.
