My Question or Issue

As the title says, my "liked songs" list isn't playing. All other playlists are working normally. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app already. I also uninstall the app, restarted my device, and then reinstalled the app. The songs on the list won't play when they're clicked individually, or if I hit "shuffle play"

Hi again @P90Alan,

Thanks for trying and keeping us posted.

Having a very big number of songs in a playlist, such as this case, can have an impact in the Connect feature performance in some devices, as they can't handle that big amount of data, since this feature makes the playback come directly from such device and not from the remote, unlike Bluetooth. That's why it works properly with smaller playlists.

In this case, you can try creating smaller playlists from your Liked Songs playlist to be able to listen to them via Connect, or use Bluetooth instead.

Hope this clears things up. The Community is here in case you have any questions.

Hello!

I had this issue recently for about a year and a half, only on my phone,  and was able to fix it via turning off voice commands. I hope this helps someone!

hello, i am also facing the same problem. I already uninstalled and installed spotify on my android, tried playing the liked songs list from my computer, from another computer too, the list doesn't play. However, when I play the playlist I like on the computer or on the phone, it does play (including passing the song via spotify connect from the laptop to the phone and vice versa). When I try to go to one of Alexa's boxes, nothing... When I try to touch alexa's boxes directly, it doesn't. Other smaller playlists play without a hitch. It's looking like a bug/problem with the size of my playlist. My liked songs is over 10000 songs. Can you help me?

 Hey @Glum,

Thanks for the post.

The size of your Liked Songs playlist may be causing this issue. You can try splitting your Liked songs into a few playlists. The easies way to do this is by batch selecting songs on the Desktop app.

What you can try is to create a free account, link that with your Alexa powered devices and check if Liked Songs plays. This will help us check whether the issue is at all related to the Library size of your main account.

Keep is posted on this.

I also face the same issue when playing my ‘Liked Songs’ playlist through Spotify Connect. Also, when I ask any Alexa device to play that playlist, it will play a max of 5 songs then stopping. When I ask again, it will start from that 5 song list again without continuing to the rest. Very strange and I wonder if it is because I have over 8000 liked songs in that playlist.

Hey @lwweqpe7-_olj,

Thanks for the post.

A large Liked Songs collection could introduce issues when playing on smart speakers, as they might not be able to handle the reuests the app sends.

You can try creating a free account for test purposes. Link that to your Alexa device and try playing the Liked Songs playlist. If you add fewer songs to the Liked songs on that account and Alexa plays them as expected, you might consider splitting your Liked Songs into playlists.

I'm getting this bug on official release, android 12/pixel 6. Can't play songs from Liked Songs Playlist. Cleared cache, reinstalled, but issue persists.

Hi @justrienne,

Thank you for posting on this thread!

Since you already tried reinstalling the app, could you do it again following these steps? They will ensure your app is free of any damaged files or leftover cache that may affect it.

Also, we'd like to confirm if this issue started right after you upgraded to Android 12, or if it also happened on Android 11.

Keep us posted.

P90Alan,

Good luck...I've been dealing with this same exact issue, as well others, and Spotify refuses to acknowledge that this is THEIR issue.  I've done all the steps that they provide, and NOTHING has fixed it.  This is not a network issue.  This is not a permission issue.  This is a SPOTIFY issue with playing your LIKED SONGS.  You can play anything you want on Spotify, as long as your not trying to play your LIKED SONGS over a speaker.  All other playlists will play over a speaker, whether it's played directly from the application, or using a voice command.  I too will be discontinuing my PREMIUM FAMILY plan and switching to Amazon Music if it's not fixed soon.  It's pathetic quite honestly.  This has been an issue for far too long so obviously either they don't WANT to fix it, or they CAN'T fix it.

I'm having the same thing; the playlist stops once it arrives at a liked song ..

Hey @quietearth

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

Could you let us know which troubleshooting steps you've already tried? That way we can avoid any repeating steps.

On another note, would you mind letting us know if this happens across devices or only on a specific one?

Lastly, we'd like to know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update.

Keep us posted.

I have the official version...not the Beta....it isn't fixed.

Hey folks,

Thank you for keeping us on the loop.

As mentioned before, a large number of tracks saved in your "liked songs" could cause this issue as it's playing directly from the speaker and not using the mobile/desktop app.

Just to make sure, this issue happens as well while you're listening directly from your phone, desktop or Web Player and not over the speaker?

If so, would you mind trying a Bluetooth connection with that speaker instead of using Connect to see if it makes any difference?

We'll be on the lookout.

PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW THE NUMBER OF TRACKS WOULD AFFECT WHETHER THE PLAYLIST PLAYS FROM A MOBILE/DESKTOP APP THAN OVER A SPEAKER....HOW DOES SPOTIFY KNOW IF MY PHONE IS CONNECTED TO A SPEAKER OR NOT????

Just to make sure, this issue happens as well while you're listening directly from your phone, desktop or Web Player and not over the speaker?

THIS ISSUE IS ANYTIME I'M USING AN ALEXA DEVICE ONLY (FOR ME AT LEAST). I CAN PLAY ANYTHING I WANT OVER AN ALEXA DEVICE, EXCEPT FOR MY LIKED SONGS PLAYLIST.

If so, would you mind trying a Bluetooth connection with that speaker instead of using Connect to see if it makes any difference?

AGAIN, THE ONLY ISSUE IS WHEN TRYING TO PLAY MY "LIKED SONGS" PLAYLIST ON AN ALEXA DEVICE.  I, AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS IN THIS THREAD, HAVE DONE ALL THE SUGGESTIONS YOU GUYS HAVE BROUGHT UP IN THIS THREAD TO NO AVAIL.  THIS IS NOT A INSTALL ISSUE, LOCATION ISSUE, FREE/PAID ISSUE.

Hey @tuffluck13,

we'll gladly explain how the number of tracks affects playback from devices different than a Smartphone or PC/Mac who run the native app.

You see, when using the app itself, it has direct connection to your library and the spotify service and knows the state of your library at any given time as that is what what it's specifically designed and optimized to do.

Smart speakers however only connect to the Spotify service via something called an API. They don't have Spotify built in, rather they connect to the service over the network. A very large library may exceed the capacity of a speaker to load it up fully. Such devices have a lot less resources, memory, storage and processing power available to them than Smartphones and PCs and they're not designed or optimized to handle such tasks. There're also built in timeout durations on each API querry, so if a device fails to get all data in one querry it will timeout. This is done as only a limited amount of querries can be sent to the API from all Spotify users around the world at a given time. Extremely large libraries might need longer than the built in timeout to load up.

As for the question how Spotify knows if your phone is connected or not - we're not sure we understand the question completely, but in general this is irrelevant and not related to the issue. If you care to elaborate what exactly you'd like to know, we'll do our best to answer.

Since you seem to experience an issue that is well known and is due to the technical limitations of current devices and networking possibilities, the only recommendation we can continue to give is to divide your Liked Songs playlist into smaller ones, so that they can be played over your Amazon Echo speaker. As technology evolves and devices and networking capabilities improve, this will hopefully cause less and less compatibility issues in the future, although it will always be a catch-up game and severe amounts of data will require some amount of resources to be processed.

Having this issue also. Worrying it seems to have existed since 2020...

Liked songs playlist completely broken.. apps fully updated.  Shuffle and tapping songs does nothing.   Huge lag that eventually it'll play something but makes it impossible to use.

While any normal playlist is instant.

wth happened?!? My Liked Songs playlist is the only playlist that I listen to. Also my “radio” during the day cuz Spotify’s algos couldn’t make a decent playlist or radio to save their life. 😂

Now it just suddenly won’t play? Worked fine earlier today at the gym. Worked fine for the last two weeks. So on one hand I’m being told to “like” stuff to help the algo make better whatever it’s supposed to be doing but doesn’t do very well and on the other I’m being told that I liked too much stuff?! Dumb!! So dumb. Like, someone should be fired for this**bleep**.

I can’t get the Liked Playlist to play via headphones, or my tv/stereo, Bluetooth speakers etc.
You want me to make a bunch of small playlist?!? wth?! Why? Who has time for that? I don’t work for Spotify. Tell one of your peeps to make playlists. I pay money for music service and music service should play music, right? Or is this a self-checkout situation where I now am an unpaid employee?

Why would an external device need to know anything but the current song playing and maybe the ID of the next one? Am I to believe that my tiny lil speaker is loading 10k tracks into it to playback one?!

How would ou suggest I make these stupid playlists? Using the desktop app? I dunno if I’ve ever even loaded Spotify onto a computer as that’s a useless place to do that for me. Do people listen to music just out of a computer speaker? I honestly don’t know but I’d guess mobile devices to be the main method.
As far as making these playlists on the desktop version, it’s not like we can filter the Liked Playlist by genre or mood because 90% of the tracks are not tagged appropriately!!! Again, so dumb!!!

Does anyone know if Tidal or Apple Music are this poorly built and designed/managed? I’d change in a heartbeat as Spotify is way more concerned about not paying artist, not fixing their app and just collecting money every month. Such a frustrating company. 👎👎

Don’t hold your breath on any fixes. I’m beginning to think this entire forum is unknown to anyone that actually works at Spotify. 🤷🏻‍♂️
