My Issue
The Spotify app seems to be working perfectly on mobile data however the app starts acting weird after I switch to WIFI network (2.4G or 5G). The app show "no internet connection" on top of the player controls but the home page of the app is fully accessible [for example- I can open any playlist, visit any profile (as long as there is a way to reach there through the home page), I can play any songs (even the ones that are not downloaded), I can join group sessions and i can download songs] but app does not loads lyrics (after I connect to mobile data mid song and let the lyrics load and then switch back to WIFI network, the lyrics works fine and is even synced to the song), it doesn't allows me to search for anything and shows a green loading circle in the place of the browsing categories section. The app seems to be working perfectly on my laptop on both web player and the windows app (on the same WIFI network) and it also works fine on my other android device which is a OPPO REALME 1.
I have tried nearly all the solutions that i was able to find like reinstalling the app, rebooting device or router, allowing every permission to the application, turned on (background data, wifi/cellular usage) updating the app and my device's firmware but still none of them seemed to work.
Hey @Aparnesh,
Thanks for reaching out.
We see you've quite a lot of troubleshooting steps on your own, so kudos for that. Can you please confirm if you followed these steps when you performed a reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.
It would also be great if you can log in with another account - such as a friend's or a family member's to see if the issue persist.
Keep us posted.
I tried the clean reinstall but it didn't work and i logged in with another account but the issue still persisted.
Another thing that, the app did not let me log in or create account on my WIFI connection in my android phone until recently but that issue got fixed after the clean reinstall. (but the issues mentioned in my post above are still there)
Hey there @Aparnesh,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Could you let us know if this has always happened on that specific phone you mentioned or if it started happening after a specific event such as an update either of Spotify or the OS of your phone?
On another note, does the same happen using a different WiFi connection?
We'll be on the lookout.
I recently bought this device about a month ago and the issue is there from the beginning. I discovered this issue when I installed Spotify and tried to login but was unable to and after a few hours I tried the same on mobile data and I was able to log in to my account.
Also, I tried to run the app on mobile hotspot as I can't access a different WIFI connection right now and the app worked perfectly on the mobile hotspot connection.
Hi @Aparnesh,
Thanks for your reply.
Could you let us know if this only happens with the Spotify app or with other streaming apps as well?
On another note, we suggest that you download the Spotify lite app to see if you're having similar issues using it too with the same WiFi network.
Keep us posted.
Every other streaming service like YouTube, YT Music, Prime video, Netflix works fine and the Spotify lite app also works perfectly on the same WiFi network
Hey @Aparnesh,
Thanks for all the detailed info shared.
In this case, would you mind checking if this is happening on a different Android device under the same Wi-Fi connection? It’d be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.
Just to confirm, is there an external SD card installed on your device? If so, remove it and reinstall the app in the internal memory of your device. Make sure to use the app without inserting the SD card again.
Keep us in the loop!
I dont have a SD card and I tried my account on a different android device under the same WIFI network and everything works perfectly and also the web player and the app works perfectly on my windows laptop too.
Hey @Aparnesh,
Thanks for your reply and for all the info shared.
From what you kindly mentioned, it seems this is something related to the affected device. Just to confirm, do you use a VPN? If yes, try switching it off to check if you notice any difference.
On another note, is the web player working on your mobile device? It'd be awesome if you could check.
Lastly, we suggest you log out and log in twice in a row onto your Spotify account. This could sound a little bit odd, but this way the system will force a resync of your account in general.
We'll be in the lookout!
I dont use a VPN and the web player works perfectly fine. The logging out and in twice in a row didn't work for me though.
But I seem to kind of get what the issue is but I was not able to fix it. You see I researched a bit myself and I came by a post which mentioned that I need to open the ports 4070 and 80 on my router. I did as the post mentioned and it worked but only for a few hours. But if I go back to the router configuration website and apply the changes again and reboot the router it works again but again for a few hours.
Hey @Aparnesh,
Thanks for your reply and for sharing your findings in the matter with us.
In this case, as mentioned in this thread, it could be related to some surf protection option from your Internet Service Provider. That being said, it'd be awesome if you could get in touch with them and check that.
On another note, you might need to check for any local settings on your device that could be blocking the app. In case there's an antivirus app or such that could be restricting access, try whitelisting Spotify.
Keep us posted!
