Apple Car Play Problems

I like listening by song title using Apple Car Play. The app is resetting every time I get out them back into the car. If it was midsong it will play the balance of the song then stop. It automatically takes me back to the home screen and then I have to scroll to the song that was playing. This is dangerous because I am usually driving by then. Any help would be appreciated.
