Linux Desktop Client Missing Lossless Audio Support

Linux Desktop Client Missing Lossless Audio Support

Hi Spotify Team,

I'm excited to see that lossless audio has finally started rolling out to Premium subscribers! However, I've noticed that the Linux desktop client appears to be missing this highly anticipated feature.

According to the September 10, 2025 announcement, lossless streaming is available on "mobile, desktop, and tablet" - but when I check my Linux Spotify client settings, there's no option to enable lossless quality under Media Quality settings. The highest available option is still "Very High" rather than the new "Lossless" setting mentioned in the announcement.

As a Linux user and Premium subscriber, I'd really appreciate having feature parity with other desktop platforms. Many Linux users are audiophiles who would greatly benefit from 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC streaming, especially since we often have high-quality audio setups.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Is lossless support planned for the Linux desktop client?
  2. If so, what's the expected timeline for this feature?
  3. Are there any technical limitations preventing lossless on Linux specifically?

I understand the feature is rolling out gradually, but it would be great to know that Linux users aren't being left behind on this major Premium feature enhancement.

Thanks for your time and for continuing to improve Spotify!

Linux environments are often used as media center , or home "hifi" stations together with DAC and Hifi systems, because it's lighter and more stable than Windows.    So please consider this enthusiastic community by supporting latest features on linux clients.  Thanks !!!!!

Really want to see this!

+1 for linux support

If you set up WinBoat you can run the windows client there, thats what I do on Nobara. In the desktop view, not opened as standalone app. 🙂

Works well until they hopefully update.

a little bit "bloat" as setup, not sure the "windows sound libraries for linux" 100% correctly handle quality audio streams with jitter control and so on .... But yess, it will works.  Maybe running the android app (with waydroid) is preferable.

Possibly, I'm still new to Linux as a daily main driver, only used it for servers until the other day. Will def test waydroid, didnt have much luck with wine or bottles for spotify, but didnt really try that hard either..

+1 Please update the Linux client please.

Oh well... arrived here trying to find out why my linux media PC spotify app did not get lossless option today. My phone and Denon receiver already got it. It is frustrating. I hope they soon upgrade the linux app too.

+1 Also a paying premium subscriber using Linux daily. Windows 10 is dying and a lot more people are switching to Linux, please add support for lossless.
Have switched to Tidal and Apple Music in the past thanks to no lossless support, so considering doing so again.

+1 I'm a premium subscriber on my free inital months at the moment and I hope you will add lossless support to the linux client. It will for sure keep me from switching to tidal 🤓

WinBoat runs Windows VM underneath so the music goes through poor Windows' mixer. Bad idea.

Waydroid isn't a good option either because it runs full Android in a container which means that the whole music is resampled to 48 kHz which is something we want to avoid.

Running Linux Mint and is also awaiting the updated client.

Checked the web player but there is no such setting, only Automatic quality and a link to get the desktop clint for Linux...

Beuark !!!  indeed bad idea in this case.  Nor Winboat, nor Waydroid,

Maybe with winehq ? https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=8514 but not sure if the sound libraries of wine do not resample 😞 .....

==> Need a lossless compatible client.

I became a premium user just for lossless in Linux... but only Very High is available... waiting...
