Update: Spotify for Linux v0.9.4 is now available. See here.
Hi everybody!
Today we pushed the latest and greatest Spotify client to our repository. This time you're getting the good stuff first, this version has only been rolled out to a small percentage of Windows/Mac users. It contains some of the features that were presented on our recent press event, such as being able to follow artists and tastemakers. Have a look at the brand new Follow page, where you can find interesting artists and other people to follow. You'll get updates on their activity, such as newly released albums etc.
As for Linux-specific fixes, there are some minor bug fixes. The biggest change is the packaging. The client now is installed to /opt and it uses XDG mechanisms to register icons and menus. The executable is now also built without hardcoded paths to libraries. This means that the folder can be put anywhere and just run from there. Unfortunately, this release still depends on libssl0.9.8. We'll try to get rid of that in upcoming releases!
The new client is just a "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" away!
What, you don't already have Spotify installed? Lookie here: http://www.spotify.com/download/previews/
Don't use Debian? Check out these zip packages:

Edit: updated to include the zip packages.

After last update of Spotify for Linux, there is strange radio behavior. While moving cursor above buttons, they sightly light up, but none of them works - next song, thumb up, NONE. Anyone encourtered the same?

The linux staff are investigating the radio issues, just got a PM earlier to say that it might not be a linux specific issue so they are looking into it.

I have updated the installer scripts with the fixes for RHEL6/Centos described on page 20. With these, also .0.9 0 at least starts and plays a a tune or two for me on CentOS 6.4.
hiya,
i just wanted to say Thanks for getting spotify on linux.
this actually means i can now use linux as a standard OS, and use windows for those few things that don't run on linux.
thanks a bunch guys!!!!!
Great, I'm really glad about this. I now have spotify on my desktop (windows), my work laptop (ubuntu) and my mobile phone (android).
Finally a WORKING Linux spotify! 🙂 Thanks!
Appears on my side too. I notice that on closing sometimes it exits with segfault:
15:35:11.611 3 [playlist_be_toplist.cpp:207 ] [spotify:user:1165635140:toplist] Synchronization starting
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
And after that on starting fails with:
15:33:05.193 I [ap_connection.cpp:1767 ] Connecting to AP lon2-accesspoint-a8.lon.spotify.com:4070
15:33:05.452 I [ap_connection.cpp:1234 ] Connected to AP: 193.235.232.21:4070
15:33:08.728 E [watchdog.cpp:174 ] Deadlock detected (Thread: gui)
But if I remove crashdump [1] files or delete users directory [2] it start ok:
[1] ~/.cache/spotify/*.dmp
[2] ~/.cache/spotify/Users/
I'm using Kubuntu 12.04.2 LTS, kernel 3.2.0-37-generic
In case anybody want's to downgrade to 0.8.8 (because of radio problems or too high CPU usage or whatever), please note, that the zip archives mix up i686 and amd64. So go for the i686 package if you are running a 64-bit linux and vice versa.
Superb!!
This is amazing!
Thank you!!
However;
When you are putting in your creditcard information to upgrade to Premium the client dies and you have to upgrade here on the webpage.
Not very frustrating but you might lose some costumers if they are too lazy to go to the offical website so you might want to look into this.
System info:

I have been using Spotify on my Acer 150 netbook running Xubuntu 12.04 and it has been working extremely well so far.
Great Job
Thank you
Hello all,
I've been using the downgraded 0.8.4 packages according to this guide for many months on Ubuntu 12.10 without problems (I hate the new white interface 😧 ), but upon upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 I'm not able to open Spotify, it crashes with a segmentation fault. Here's a pastebin of a stacktrace right before it crashes. I see no login screen or anything, it just fails to start.
Any insight is very appreciated, I'd love to continue using this version.

This a known issue. Embarrasing, I would say..
You could try the installer at https://github.com/leamas/spotify-make discussed in http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/Linux-Installer-script-Ubuntu-SUSE-Mageia... It's actually designed for non-debian platforms, but I have checked in some support for recent Ubuntu (same problem) and Debian.
Cool. Thanks, I'll check that out a bit later when I've got a few spare mins.
Great! Remainng question for the rest of us: how did you make it work? 🙂
Hello Ieamas, could you define "you" and "it"? I don't know if I can answer your question or not 😉
Edit: I guess you mean sungamb and his success on rhel6. So please disregard my question.
Please keep supporting linux! We love you for it!
When I check my "About Spotify", I get "Version 0.9.1.55.gbdd3d79f". Is this the lastest version?
Thanks
