Update: Spotify for Linux v0.9.4 is now available. See here.
Hi everybody!
Today we pushed the latest and greatest Spotify client to our repository. This time you're getting the good stuff first, this version has only been rolled out to a small percentage of Windows/Mac users. It contains some of the features that were presented on our recent press event, such as being able to follow artists and tastemakers. Have a look at the brand new Follow page, where you can find interesting artists and other people to follow. You'll get updates on their activity, such as newly released albums etc.
As for Linux-specific fixes, there are some minor bug fixes. The biggest change is the packaging. The client now is installed to /opt and it uses XDG mechanisms to register icons and menus. The executable is now also built without hardcoded paths to libraries. This means that the folder can be put anywhere and just run from there. Unfortunately, this release still depends on libssl0.9.8. We'll try to get rid of that in upcoming releases!
The new client is just a "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" away!
What, you don't already have Spotify installed? Lookie here: http://www.spotify.com/download/previews/
Don't use Debian? Check out these zip packages:

Edit: updated to include the zip packages.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I VERY discourage from doing so. This might as well increase similar problems with other tools and I suppose that doing such an action with another program resulted in wrong permissions on the /run/ directory tree and caused the issues in first place. Better get your file/folder ownerships corrected.
Don't do that unless out of other options! Running as root will make temporary files owned by root, causing all sorts of trouble later.
As for the /run/user/100 directory it probably refers to the run directory for current user id. To check the correct /run/user directory print 'touch /run/user/$UID/foo' in a terminal. If it completes without errors, all is good. The linux client does not need beeing run as root!, it it does something is wrong in the linux setup.
I love that Spotify has a linux/ubuntu client! Thank you for making this!
I don't have the privilege to view some ad's under Linux.
Version 0.9.4.183, Debian Wheezy. I could only take a screenshot, attached below.
I've tried "touch /run/user/$UID/foo" and got no errors but i've the same problem with the central radio page, can't skip, image don't change...
Hi,
So I am using Spotify on Ubuntu. It was running great until recently. When I click an artists page the screen is blank i.e. I can't see any of the albums or songs.
Any ideas how to fix this? I have already tried a fresh install but getting the same problem.
Cheers
Just updated Spotify. I didn't find any bug 🙂
Does anyone have the lines to add to the repo file?
The previews page is broken for me 😕
Thanks,
Liam

Haha, yeah, good idea 😉
Got it from there as well 😛

Shouldn't https://www.spotify.com/us/download/linux/ at least 302 to the previews page?
You know, sign of good faith and all that 😉
Awesome<<<<<<<<! THANK YOU!! 🙂
Just to let you know I'm testing ver 0.9.4.183 on Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon . I've just switched from windows 8 to Linux I'm so pleased your supporting Linux and I hope you continue support in the future , thanks so much . I'll report any problems as and when I find them.
I'm using 0.9.4.183 on Linux - running via crouton on a Chromebook Pixel. I'm kinda impressed with how well everything just works. So far I have not noticed any differences between this and running on a Windows machine.
Thanks for making this available.
Any plans for a 0.9.8 update?
I have 0.9.4.183 running on Elementary OS Luna. Everything is working great! Keep up the good work guys!
Same here on Crunchbang. No bugs, everything fine. 🙂
Everything works fine, localization (Italian) too, with the exception of a possible bug. The whole linux GUI is messed up at full size window. XUBUNTU 14.04 / 64 bit.
New version 0.9.10 out, but not complete (the i386 .deb file is missing).
