New Spotify Web Player Design [NEW 2017 DESIGN?] | FEEDBACK, IDEAS, QUESTIONS, & COMMENTS

Solved!

New Spotify Web Player Design [NEW 2017 DESIGN?] | FEEDBACK, IDEAS, QUESTIONS, & COMMENTS

Hello Spotify users,

This thread is for the community who have been selected to test the new web player design.

I've noticed that there is a great change probably hinting at spotify getting rid of some features and adding new ones. It is very important that the users of spotify give feedback to these new changes.

FEATURES TO CONSIDER:

- Save feature needs to be added. The save feature needs to be added back on albums and singles.

- Interactive profiles. Profiles arent interactive anymore. I seen the riddence of public playlists on profiles and what artists users are listening too. It would be nice to actually improve the profiles picture and make contacting and connecting to other users easy.

- Make accessibility to playlists and customization to playlist easier. Because of the new bulky UI it is hard to find what you're looking for.

- Make the UI less bulky-- the colors are nice, the design is nice, but it would be easier if it was efficient. The UI is too bulky, like the songs get overcrowded when listening to an album or playlist.

Any more feedback, ideas, questions, and/or comments are welcomed. If you are a visitor, it is nice to see your feedback as you will be using this UI or help develop it. 🙂

Web Player wont update to new interface

Whenever I use the spotify webplayer it only uses the old one. The new interface does not show up for me no matter what device I am on. I generally use a crhomebook though.

I wanted to submit another problem. When artist have a new release, the artist dont really check singles as a new release. Some artist release an EP as a single or even a mixtape, but since it is a single it does not count as a new release. Please impliment this, as this was there in your old webplayer.

It seems there's no option to find and follow friends in the new design? I'm searching for someone I know is on there and can't find them.

Removing the Play Queue makes this no better than Youtube and much worse than Deezer. And it's ridiculous to force beta updates on unwitting users - who does that?! This sort of thing should be opt-in only as any decently run website or platform who cares at all about its users would do

@ScottSherlock77 It's a staggered rollout - trust me, you don't want it.

I've been considering a premium upgrade, but with this redesign--no way. All of the functionality and searchability has changed or been discarded in favor of something that offers no interface options. It's a bulky design, and loses everything a desktop should/can offer an interface.

Biggest issues:
*No sort function. I want to see what I've saved most recently. There should be an option to see it in that order.
*No list views. Avatar views too bulky and difficult to search through.
*Search functionality used to have a nice revolving function, allowing the user to toggle through the last albums being searched, or allowing to return back to the saved albums screen---without losing the web player on the side.

*web player on the bottom of the screen runs into all sorts of windows conflict, especially when windows is set for a pop-up from the bottom of the screen. Cursor goes down, windows program toggles come up, web player becomes frustrating.

I'd love the option to use the previous interface on my desktop, or at the very least, have the option to view as a list format. The previous interface was fantastic, and a big reason why I've been a Spotify user. I'm sorry you thought it was broken.

Been a premium member for a while now and the discover feature being gone is huge for me. HUGE. Used it everyday. I hope it will return.

As you said, it is inefficient because the text is so massive. Not really ideal if we have non-touchscreen devices... The UI before this was just fine, why not have the new UI like the old one? Or an option for tablet mode, even?

It doesn't matter, they won't listen. This whole thing is to create the illusion that users have a voice

I hate the new design.

I can't find radio feature anywhere, and the volumne cuts in and out- whenever I turn it down it jumps back up to full.

Sometimes I select an album to play and nothing happens.

Frequently cuts out and I have to refresh page in order to get music playing again.

Been with spotify since day 1 and this new layout is absolutely awful. Fonts are too large for desktops, no star button, no album dates, no option links and no crucial play stats - all disappeared. Why ruin what was a perfectly capable layout & options for this junk?

I suspect many users will now be searching for another player or trying to get the old layout back again

Go back to previous version (available on filehippo) and block it from updating, see @luhihihi / @lolpan posts on how to do it

There is nothing in the new UI that I prefer over the previous.  It only seems to be less intuitive, more bulky, and missing features.

  • Can't swich devices, only see the device help context.
  • no radio feature or controls
  • giant search text.  I'm on a desktop web browser, I don't need the search box to take up 25% of the window.
  • general navigation isn't as intuitive

My biggest issue is that I pay for Spotify Premium, yet I was forced into this beta with no announcement or way to opt out.  I would gladly check out a new interface and give opinions, but being a paying customer and having no choice in the matter is terrible service.

First impression is that it looks clunky and strange, but maybe I just need to get used to it. Zooming out on Chrome helped making it look a bit better but the search is ridiculously big.

I can't seem to sort my saved albums by date, name, or most played like before. I would definitly want that feature back. Also when clicking on my username it just shows the avatar and 'show account' and 'log out' buttons. No following/followers? Are we not gonna be able to look at userprofiles on the webplayer anymore?

eta: I just realized that the Last.fm connection is gone. If I can't scrobble I won't be using the webplayer anymore.

First i thought it was malware... then friends that i had suggested them to use spotify web player even free because the app is "Hungry for Resources with all the ads" they calling me and asking me.

1. Ugly

2. Useless

3. Nonfunctional

4. Resources eater

5. Services missing

6. Looping from nowhere

7. Stops and starts when ever it likes

8. Sometimes hit Play and doing nothing.

In a few days my subscription is getting over so i will not renew... too bad and sad. I will also stop recommending it.

I was just switched to this new interface. Where the **bleep** is radio feature?! I had some "stations" tuned (by thumbs up/down) to exactly my needs! I want to be back on play.spotify until radio feature is implemented on open.spotify! Or f* you, I'm taking my money to Google Play.

@iamthecrime: You may try one of the available scrobbling browser extensions for Chrome though and check if they also work with the new interface. Usually this would have to be adapted, but both developers have a GitHub page where you could ask them:

https://github.com/david-sabata/web-scrobbler/issues

https://github.com/cgravolet/scroblr/issues

@hans-jürgen Thanks for the reminder! I forgot I have that installed lol. It's not working with the new interface yet but maybe it will once it's rolled out for everyone, otherwise I'll ask. It can be a bit unstable though compared to connecting to last.fm through the account on the webplayer, hence why I'd prefer that. But we'll see!

I reckon I am feeling right now as head-wobbling as a few months earlier, when Facebook released that very new Messenger app design...just why? This is one of the worst design changes of any app/service towards the simplified look I have ever seen, sorry. This design is good for the playlist with just a few songs, not some serious playlists with like 200 songs (btw, many times made by your colleagues in Spotify)...at least it behaves somehow reasonable to the zoom in-out process.

This one lacks a good ability to not lose the mind in the no border simplified design, not even mentioning that previous sub-window overlaying made easy to jump from playlist to some artist content (clicking on that very field in the playlist window) and back with just clicking out of the area of the freshly opened sub-window.

Is/Will be there any option to revert the design? Do you understand, that design simplifying process can go just as far away as it does not to become just bloated mess?

I am sorry, I know this will not get to anyone, who is able to do something and I have no intentions of ruining an effort of you, guys, but...you know.

(P.S.:I have just tried a desktop app and it is just ok and I like it! Good old design with the touches I can see with new web player design...that is how it should look alike, if you really want to change the web player design.)

(P.S.2:Web player now is not longer localized in the english as well...for god's sake.)

I don't like the new design either, besides it is not working (no playback of anything) I can't find essential features. One of the main reasons for my Premium Account is the web player so I can listen to music at work although the traffic from the Desktop App is blocked by the firewall. I don't see what was wrong with the old player. This is definetely no improvement for me.
