Hello Spotify users,
This thread is for the community who have been selected to test the new web player design.
I've noticed that there is a great change probably hinting at spotify getting rid of some features and adding new ones. It is very important that the users of spotify give feedback to these new changes.
FEATURES TO CONSIDER:
- Save feature needs to be added. The save feature needs to be added back on albums and singles.
- Interactive profiles. Profiles arent interactive anymore. I seen the riddence of public playlists on profiles and what artists users are listening too. It would be nice to actually improve the profiles picture and make contacting and connecting to other users easy.
- Make accessibility to playlists and customization to playlist easier. Because of the new bulky UI it is hard to find what you're looking for.
- Make the UI less bulky-- the colors are nice, the design is nice, but it would be easier if it was efficient. The UI is too bulky, like the songs get overcrowded when listening to an album or playlist.
Any more feedback, ideas, questions, and/or comments are welcomed. If you are a visitor, it is nice to see your feedback as you will be using this UI or help develop it. 🙂

I bought something from a tech store today and gifted me a Spotify Gift Card for 3 months... i activated. The layout i get used it, the difficulty making playlists also i get used it, the navigation style i get used that too... the things that makes me disappointed is that i have a playlist with 9 songs for example... at the 3rd(i.e.) stops(pauses) it self or if you are lucky the playlist ends but doesn't auto replay even if you have the repeat activated, the play button doesn't always working and if it works you press it and the music starts after 3-4 seconds not immediately, missing radio option. Fix or add those things and will be fine.
P.S. For me TOP priority is to fix the playback issues.
To revert to previous UI just download this addon UAControl. UAControl let you change user agent per site.
Install and restart Firefox to activate the addon + change the Spotify-site to Googlebot =
Add site: "play.spotify.com"
Action > Custom: "Googlebot/2.1; + http://www.google.com/bot.html" (see also here).
Update the Spotify-page - done!
(Chrome users can use User-Agent Switcher for Chrome.)
Thanks! UAControl addon works for me. The old player is back!
Thanks again!
Just adding my name to the "petition." This update is god-awful. You can't see anything because every button, title, etc is GIGANTIC and all of the useful buttons have been removed from the tabs, but the tabs are still there taking up space. I can't even drag a darn song to a playlist anymore.
It'd be nice if Spotify brought back the settings button and let us change this to a usable interface rather than having to basically hack my browser to get an old version. I'm sick of updates that create more problems without fixing any of the old, obvious issues.
Dear SPOTIFY, why did you do this?! Where is the PRIVATE option?! Also, is it necessary to have HUGE images for the playlists? I like my music options to be discreet and personal. I have no need for loud images. Please bring back the bullet-style playlist. And I really could use the PRIVATE option.
-BIGGEST 3 Problems:
1) No Queue function [My most used function because there is also not a repeat one song function, which can be added to the repeat button. Click once to repeat the song. Click twice to repeat entire list.]
2) A lot of the time, I get three 30 second adds in a row, then I get to listen to maybe 1 - 3 songs, and then I get a bunch of ads again. I understand you need to play ads, but bullying into buying premium, because there are way more ads than music, will lose you a lot of users.
3) When I click a song to play it plays a different song. All the songs will play, are available. and if I click enough I get the one I want, which will play fine. It would be good, if it played the song I originally clicked on.
-No sorting functions for Song list. Being able to sort by artist, not date added, would be great, or just switch it to artist sorting.
- Playlists cannot be re-named, or deleted
-The Search would be great if it gave recommended fill in suggestions.
- Ability to choose font size would be good. In the song list fonts/ blocks for each song is big only allowing to view 7 songs on the screen.
- After you click on an artist, in the Search, there is no way to get all of their songs at once. You have to click on each album, then click the artist name to go back, to open a new album...there is a lot of unecessary clicking to switch to other songs in other albums. Need a see all button.
Other than that I adore the new layout. People getting excited over space layout are being picky, and the larger icons make it easier for everyone not using something with a giant screen. The entire browse tab is perfect: there is access to everything, the scrolling down is nice, Genre & Mood, and Discover are still there, which is great.
The song playlist jumping everywhere when you do anything, and loading songs slowly as you scroll has been fixed, thank you! A few functional problems in the new player, but as long as you fix the those utilitarian features everyone should get over the new layout aesthetics pretty quickly.
I am honestly, genuinely, amazed at how terrible this UI is. I keep finding more and more and more problems with it. Now, none of my playlists are working. A playlist of 100 songs might play only one.
I can't see all of my saved artists, I can't see release years on albums, all of most useful features are gone, it is not very usable.
I'm probably going to cancel my family subscription and move to another service if we can't go back to the old UI or if all of its features aren't brought to this one with this one being fixed.
The old web player in Spotify was actually pretty spot-on. This one is just not working out at all.
The new web player design Is complete GARBAGE!!! I found the old player functional and easy to use, I get home from work today and...**bleep**...
When I search for an artist I have to select each album to view the songs? REALLY?!?! the old player would have all the albums In chronilogical order and each album would list all the songs underneath. Perfect! It didnt need to be fixed because It wasn't broken!
that's just the first complaint after a few minutes of struggling with my spotify, I'm sure It will not be my last. I really hate It when developers change things that were already finished and functioning well.
this is disappointing to say the least, please go back to the old layout, it was much more user friendly and easier to find more music and new artists, this new webdesign does not make playlists more easily accessible, i enjoyed when the pages were compact and i could easily see songs and related artists, these new designs are an eyesore
I loved the old web player. This new design is a total garbage. Every piece of useful information (tracks, etc.) is hidden or gone. All I see are huge useless icons stabbing my eyes. Very bad UI, a lot of clicking/scrolling. I use Spotify premium for hours every day while I work, probably won't be anymore with this abominable "update". Tragic.
Hello, if you have remote web designer spots available I'd like to suggest myself.
The attachments are a 5 minutes work fiddling with your bad (no offense) css, assigning some custom values and addressing most of the complaints in the thread. 5 minutes.
This can be taken a lot further and improved with some backend coding related to songs sorting and all of that nice stuff that was already there in the previous interface.
First image is how the interface is, and the second image is how mine looks like, instead.
This new UI is terrible. I hate the trend that software creators try to unify their services on every platform... Bring back the old UI, or something similar, not this bad smartphone interface. Or at least give users a settings menü, where they can select what kind of information they want to see on their screen, and what not...
For example why are the listening numbers all gone?! yes it's not a necessary feature, but I like to know if the artist i'm listening to is tending or not.
This new design just removes and hides so many small little feature that it makes it just a generic music player.
I guess the idea was to polish the service, and focus purely on music experience, but it doesn't work on desktop!!!! I'm not using a computer, because I want to click huge buttons on the big screen. Computer screens (thanks to their size) can show a lot of information simultaneously, without getting chaotic, or distracting.
If this simple design stays, then I might as well go back to youtube to listen to music (because in this current state spotify don't really have so much more feature than the other)...
I think this new UI is definitely something that's going to take a while for me to get used to, I'm sure it'll be fine in the long run but the think I don't like is that we're STILL unable to repeat just the one song. Surely you would have thought that they'd look at this if they were updating the interface? Also everything is massive, I don't especially like it right now. 😞
where is last.fm? where is the song queu? where are the numbers of the songs played in the artists section?
Why do u force us to download the app?
Personally I cant download the app as my computer does not allow that. and now i just dont want to listen to music via spotify because of the new layout
Also, It shows the latest album as "latest release" however, some singers have single as the latest release.
ahhhh this new design is garbage in every way!
the most importantly for me is the LAST FM!
This is horrible!
I guess it's time to change to apple music..
Amazing upgrade! So minimalist and such performance boost which was so needed! Love it! Thank you!
Why on earth would you change to this ugly featureless UI. I just got premium and have been really enjoying it. I listen at work where the APP is blocked. Therefore I use the web player. It was perfect the way it was. There isn't even que or radio here and the layout is massive and ugly. Put it back. Sack whoever did this.
Brilliant. I was so frustrated with the new web player this morning, but this work around to get back to the old player is brilliant. All the features missing from the new one are back. Whoohoo. Hope this feature isn't taken away.
(Downloaded into Chrome the Chrome UA Spoofer, then selected IE10 as a chrome user. Then change the URL to "play.spotify.com" instead of "open.spotify.com" and it works)
The new design is extremely confusing. Everything is too big! i like the playbar on the side, with the big album cover and suggestions. Andnow that I think about it, I hate all the names of my playlists; but I can't change them now. Every single icon is now humongous, forcing me to hold my screen two feet away because I can't comprehend them too close to my face. My grid of playlists is so big it can't fit on one page. MAKE THE ICONS AND ALBUM COVERS AND EVERYTHING SMALLER!! WHY ARE THEY SO BIG???
