My Question or Issue

Spotify playback does not work using the Web player with Firefox 91.10.0esr on Debian GNU/Linux (no dedicated help category for the web player, hence posting here): the song does not start playing and no error is displayed after pressing the play button either in the Now Playing bar or on a different song in the queue. Reloading the page, re-login did not help, playback does not work in Private Browsing mode either. The issue was noticed today at around 16:45 UTC.

Note this is the second time playback does not work for me in 10 days , this time with no error message.

Support tried shrugging it off with "Currently Spotify is not supported on Linux", but the issue was also reproducible on Windows 10 Home with Firefox 102.0 (64-bit).

On suggestion from support I tried using a tethered cell phone connection instead of the usual residential Wi-Fi/cable connection. Playing the current song in queue did not work as before, but playing the first of Liked Songs did work after which everything returned to normal - playing other playlists or individual tracks works fine. Interestingly, I did try playing songs from playlists including Liked Songs yesterday and it did not work. It remains unclear whether connecting using a different internet connection helped or it was a matter of timing and some issue with the web player got resolved since yesterday.

The issue is still reproducible using the aforementioned Firefox version as well as Chromium 103.0.5060.53.

Possibly of note is that after entering password and hitting Enter on the login page an error message "Oops! Something went wrong, please try again or check out our help area" is displayed (tried attaching a screenshot, but then the reply is removed from the thread). Login succeeds and the web player is opened despite the message.
