I was excited to see an update today for Mac (1.0.2.6.g9977a14b) but unfortunately scripting support is still broken. It seems like a simple fix... the .sdef file is in the wrong place according to the Info.plist.
We can't ask all of our users to drill into the app contents and edit .plist files... Please fix!

Untill they get around to fixing the issue, could you explain how to fix the plist to work with applescript again?
Sure. This guide is actually very easy to follow so I'll just link it here: https://www.unifiedremote.com/tutorials/how-to-get-spotify-version-spotify-101xxx-on-mac-osx
You have to right-click on the application and choose "Show Package Contents" to see the Contents folder. Good luck. Hopefully they address this soon.
