My Question or Issue

Hi everyone,

I’m having serious issues with the Spotify desktop app on my MacBook.

The app opens, but it doesn’t function properly. Here are the problems I’m experiencing:

  • The Home page is completely blank except for the left sidebar.

  • In the left sidebar, there is a playlist "Endorse barla" showing that I don’t recognize and never liked.

  • The only playlist that actually works from the left menu is my Liked Songs.

  • There is no synchronization between the songs I liked on my phone and what appears on my MacBook.

  • When I search for a song or artist, the app either loads indefinitely or shows messages like:

“Something went wrong with loading the artist”
    “Search for something else”
  • If I try to navigate using the left menu, nothing loads properly either (except for Liked Songs).

  • When I click on my profile (top right corner), nothing loads or responds.

The Spotify Web Player works perfectly, and the app on my phone also works fine. The issue only happens with the desktop app on my MacBook.

I already checked and cleared my hosts file, but there was no issue there. I also completely uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but the problem persists.

At this point, I don’t know what else to try. Has anyone experienced this before or found a solution?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have exactly the same problem, with Spotify version 1.2.83.461

Hey there @43yk2_-4muab & @ali582

Thanks for posting on the Community! Sorry to hear you're having issues with the desktop app.

Just to make sure we cover all bases, could you check if resetting the app data makes any difference in this case? Just open the Spotify app on your Mac > in the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Help > Troubleshooting > Reset App Data and Restart. It's also worth disabling hardware acceleration to see if the issue persists. This can be found in the same troubleshooting menu.

Shouldn't that do the trick, would you mind letting us know the following:

  • Did this start at any specific points? This could be after an update to the device's OS or to the app.
  • Current app version (kudos for including it @ali582!)
  • Does it happens with a different internet connection? For example, if you're currently on WiFi, you can check with a hotspot on 4G/5G.

On another note @43yk2_-4muab, as you mention seeing a playlist you do not recognize, we also suggest following the steps listed under Still have access to your account? on this page. This is to ensure you're the only one with access to your account.

Let us know how you get on!

I’ve just did a Clean reinstall as listed here and it worked without even restarting the computer or reinstalling Spotify:

Thanks Maria!

Sorry Maria, I just saw your message after I had already fixed it. Thanks a lot for your help. If I have any issues again, I’ll try your method. Thanks and have a good day! 🙂

Hey @43yk2_-4muab & @ali582,

Thanks for following up! Great to hear things are back track again 🙂

Feel free to give the steps mentioned earlier a try, if the issue persists or resurfaces. Heads-up @43yk2_-4muab, we've removed one of your comments as we never endorse using an older version. Spotify is constantly making changes and improvements with each new update. We always recommend using the latest app version as it contains the most up-to-date features, security updates and bug fixes.

Cheers!

I have been suffering from the same problem and this solved my issue. Help -> Troubleshooting -> Reset App Data and Restart

I have the same issue, since about 1.5 months back it just stopped after Christmas.

Hey @Svenji,

Thank you for joining the thread.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, have you tried the clean reinstall process mentioned by @ali582 and the "reset app data" process mentioned by @socks89? If not, we'd recommend following them to see if it makes any difference.

If the issue persists, would you mind checking with a different Wi-Fi connection as @Maria mentioned earlier? If you don't have another one available, you can use a mobile data hotspot to test it.

Lastly, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating this.

We'll be on the lookout.

My spotify is not working on the web version (not the app). Experiencing similar issues. Also, for example, it will not allow me to add a song to a playlist (won't show history or add new one).

Please advise.

Hey @mpallerino27,

Thanks for joining the thread and welcome to the Spotify Community!

Can you let us know if you have any issues with the desktop app? If not and it's only the web player, then it could be browser-related, so it might be worth testing this out with a different one or using an incognito window. Something else that comes to mind is clearing the browser's cache and cookies and disabling any ad blockers or extensions you might be using, or making sure Spotify's excluded from them.

Keep us posted.

I got it working the same way. thanks guys

I had this problem for months and couldn't use the app on my Mac. I just had Codex fix the problem with Computer usage. Here is the summary of what the problem was

The problem was almost certainly corrupted or stale Spotify local web-app state.

Spotify’s desktop app is basically a native shell around a Chromium/web UI. The app process was running, your account/library data was partly reachable, and network access worked, but the embedded renderer was stuck on skeleton placeholders and then a blank page. Clearing normal runtime cache alone didn’t fix it; clearing `PersistentCache` did. That points to bad persistent UI/app data rather than your Spotify account, internet, DNS, or macOS itself.

How it likely happened:

- Spotify shipped an update, but an older cached web bundle/state stayed around and became incompatible.
- The embedded Chromium storage got corrupted after a crash, force quit, sleep/wake, or interrupted update.
- Some locally cached Spotify experiment/feature flag or web resource got stuck in a bad state.
- Less likely: a transient network/proxy/DNS issue months ago caused a bad cached bootstrap state, and Spotify kept reusing it.

Why it lasted months: Spotify kept launching from the same broken persistent cache every time. Reinstalling or restarting often doesn’t remove `~/Library/Application Support/Spotify/PersistentCache`, so the app can stay broken indefinitely.

I preserved the old cache folders as backups, but if Spotify continues working for a few days, they’re just dead weight and can be deleted later.

am having the same problem, help

Hi , Solved it as Apple changed the network security apparently  in Tahoe 26.5.1

So I changed the proxy settings from automatic to no Proxy , that did the trick for me

Cheers
