My Question or Issue

I am trying to re-install Spotify onto my mac, to attempt to debug an issue with Spotify crashing and bringing down my whole computer. On the way to understanding that issue I am uninstalling and re-installing the macOS player.

After downloading SpotifyInstaller.zip and unzipping it the icon looks corrupted and the modification date is the Unix Epoch, which is another concerning piece of data. Is there a new release scheduled soon that will correct these issues?

Hi there @ghettocyborg,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll be glad to help you get the app in working order.

This is quite odd and we haven't seen anything quite like this. Can you make sure that you download the Spotify installer from here? Does the file there also appear corrupted and show the wrong date? If so, please send us some screenshots so we can take a closer look.

Keep us posted.

Hi,

Mine is doing the same thing. I can't download, using the same link sent, and it is coming up as 1 January 1980 00:00. I also had to download as my app was crashing due to being an old version. Can I also have help/ find out how you fixed it.

Thanks

Hey @stoney1909-gb,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!

You mentioned you aren't able to download the app with the link sent - you mean this one, right? Are you getting any errors and can you let us know what's preventing you from doing it so we can have a closer look? We'd recommend following these steps for performing a clean reinstall of the app to make sure any damaged cache is removed.

Another thing that comes to mind is checking for any pending MacOS updates, as well as browser ones. Also, make sure that Spotify is allowed in your Firewall and Privacy settings.

When it comes to the weird old date appearing, there are several threads over the years on Apple's forum about this - you can check out this one, for example. Since it's device-related, it'd be best to reach out to their Support team and try to fix it.

Hope this helps.

My Question or Issue

Spotify did not work anymore (it was marked "OLD" in the apps folder), removed it and downloaded the app from open.spotify.com

The download is dated 31 december 1979, so I do not trust installing it.

How to get the latest app for OSX?

Patrick Geers

Installed the download with timestamp 1979, works fine.

thanks
