The "Show the now-playing panel" 'feature' keeps turning on after restart.

The "Show the now-playing panel" 'feature' keeps turning on after restart.

I am on Mac (latest version of OS and Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon)
1.2.29.605.g66a43ceb.

I HATE the Now-Playing featuer with a vengance.
I turn it OFF in settings.
I quit Spotify (or reboot Mac or whatever) and this IRRITATING "feature" is turned ON again in the settings.

How can I keep it turned off (or better, can Spotify remove this "feature" entirely please).

Hi there @AnneMVoss,

Thanks for reaching out.

We tested this extensively on our end and weren't able to reproduce this behaviour. The panel should stay however you've left it even after a restart of the app and/or device. Meaning, if the panel is closed, it should stay closed unless you open it manually, likewise if you leave it open, it should stay open.

Could you please try the following:

  • Does this same thing happen on the webplayer on the same device?
  • Try a clean reinstall if you haven't already.
  • Disable hardware acceleration.

Hope this helps.

So far the issue seems resolved. I had changed the Language of the Spotify app to English (UK) and back to Dutch and ever since then the problem has not resurfaced.

Hey @AnneMVoss,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop and for letting us know what worked for you!

We're happy to hear it's back on track, that's great news 🙂

Should anything else appear, the Community is here for you.

Cheers!

Aaaand.... it's back. 😞

I just started playing a playlist from the button on top of the playlist instead of by just starting play with a single track.

Makes me look at Apple Music more and more. 😞

Hi @AnneMVoss,

Thanks for the reply. Does it happen only when starting from the big play button? Does the previous trick with changing the language help?

Let us know how it goes.

Hi there,

Just want to add I have the same issue, both on an M1 MacBook Pro, and an M3 MacBook Pro, latest Spotify update.

Same here. I've turned it off dozens of times at this point. New updates or restarts of the software both re-enable the feature. I've opened settings and turned it off as I said dozens of times, and I can't get this stupid 'feature' to play nice. I use the feature very very little, yet I can't get it to stay away. Please introduce a fix. All other settings seem to stay, only this one continues to re-enable itself.

Having the same issue Spotify for macOS (Intel) 1.2.45.454.gc16ec9f6 on macOS Sonoma 14.5
It seems like when I restart the laptop the now-playing feature is re-enabled and I get the tooltip info explaining what the feature is. It's very annoying.
