My Question or Issue

Every time I try to log in to my desktop app I get an error message: "The username or password is incorrect (Error code: auth:2)"... but this is incorrect because I can log in to my iPhone or on a webrowser with the same info.  Have tried the clean reinstall... several times... to no avail.

I'm dealing with a problem where I am able to log into my account on the web player but when I try to do it in the app (Mac OS 10.11) it tells me that the exact same credentials are incorrect.

Thanks Ennio_Styles, the reddit facebook workaround worked a treat, my 2012 macbook lives to fight another day! 

I have tried all of this. I'm on OS version 15.4.1. I know my password is right because I changed it and used it to login on the web browser. It won't let me add Google to my login options. It says "Something went wrong. Please try again" every time. I've reinstalled. I am appalled I couldn't find an adequate fix on this forum.

Kudos for trying to reinstall the app. Would you mind sharing with us what other troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? That way we'll avoid repeating any. 

 

Since you mentioned you're unable to connect Google to your Spotify account, we'd recommend you open an incognito window to try from there. Remember to follow these steps to be able to connect your Spotify to your Google account. 

 

Note: It’s not possible to add the same login details to multiple Spotify accounts. If issues persist, we'd recommend you make sure you don't have any other Spotify accounts that might be linked to Google. You can check this article to find out if you have more Spotify accounts. 

 

If issues persist after trying the above, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The model of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running. You can check that by following these steps.
  • Are you able to log in from a different computer with your email and password? You can ask for the computer of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.

I can't log in to my Spottily account now using the app on OSX 10.14.6.

 

I don't want to be forced by Spotify to have to update my OSX to a newer version so I can listen to music on my iMac.

 

I rely on many MAC apps that wont work on a newer OSX. It's a sad state of affairs that Spotify have done this! I feel like i'm being held to ransom, seriously considering cancelling my monthly subscription altogether.
