My Question or Issue

I am using the MacBook version of Spotify desktop, and every button is extremely delayed. Any action (pause, play, skip, search, open playlist) takes 10+ seconds to happen including closing the app and transitioning between songs. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled twice while clearing the cache with no success.  internet and system usage are not the issue either. The issue is making Spotify unusable as it will take 30+ seconds to load between songs.

Hi there @Meanybuttjr,

Thanks for the reply. If the issue occurs only with the university wi-fi network, then that appears to be where the root cause is. It's tough to say what exactly it may be, but perhaps some sort of security protocols or filtering settings are causing the data Spotify needs to function to be significantly delayed. Perhaps you can raise this issue with a system administrator. Also consider checking the settings for that specific network on your Mac, there may be some firewall setting for example that is causing this.

Hope this helps.

Hi there @Meanybuttjr,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on this Mac? Is the webplayer affected?
  • When did this start happening?
  • While you've most likely already done this, if you haven't performed a clean reinstall with all steps in order, please do so.
  • A video of the behaviour

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

-Just on my MacBook, and the web player is still affected but not as severely as the application.

-About a month or 2 ago, it will be especially bad for some time then get better then become bad again.

-I did that with no success

Note about video: In the video the pause an skip never happened, usually it will happen at a long delay (10-20 seconds) the pause will also occur at the end of a song for up to a minute(what was happening in the video) and the other playlist I attempted to open never opened. Internet connection is not the issue.

Hey @Meanybuttjr,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the shared info.

Since this could be caused by some damaged files stored on your Mac, we'd recommend clearing any entries which contain Spotify from the host files on your computer. To do so, you can follow the instructions in this post (even if it's a different issue).

It would be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.

Lastly, include in your next response the exact OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

I cleared host files.

The application is no longer opening(uninstall and reinstall did not help) on my computer so I assume it is device related. (it works on my phone)

-As I was about to press reply it loaded, but actions are still delayed.

Hey there @Meanybuttjr

Thanks for your reply.

Would you mind checking if the OS of your PC is up to date?

On another note and just to confirm, did the app finally open? If so, could you ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account to see if they can replicate this behavior? If you don't know anyone using Spotify, you can create a new account to test this here

Additionally, could you give a different internet connection a go to see if the same happens? You can try creating a hotspot on your phone and using that.

Let us know how it goes.

The OS is up to date.

A different account made no difference.

Going on to my hotspot did solve the problem. I am on a university campus on their wifi network, but I have had no issue with Spotify on my laptop in past years, and it works perfectly fine on my iPhone while it is connected to wifi. It is unlikely that it is an internet speed issue from speed tests, and no other applications have the issue.
