My Question or Issue

The buttons in the top right corner are no longer at the top of the app. This is very annoying for me, as it makes it significantly more difficult to click. Previously I could just move my mouse all the way in the top right corner to close the app, now I have to pay attention and make sure I don't click in the empty space above the button.

As you can see in the screenshot, the red area is where I can click and above it is some empty black area that does nothing:

UX design-wise this seems like an awful choice because the corners of a desktop display offer essentially an endless clickable area because the user can just move their mouse in the general direction of the respective corner and always hit the element. Windows even specifically made it so that the mouse doesn't slide into a different monitor when you hit the corners (if multiple monitors are used). This way you can always hit the corners, without even looking at the screen.

This is used for the windows button (bottom left) or minimise all (bottom right) or commonly the close button (top right) in basically all windows applications (except full screen)

Whoever told you that was clearly lying to cover up their inability to fix it. There is no way in a million years that anyone would EVER think this is reasonable, unless they're intentionally trying to degrade UX.

Reminder that Spotify breaks simply Windows apps design rules made by Microsoft.

After this has been bothering me for half a year, I'm finally taking the time to complain about this problem.

On the one hand, it annoys me that Spotify is the only program where you have to aim very precisely when closing – with all the others, you can do it blindly – and I just find the buttons ugly.

At first, I thought it was a resolution issue with my monitor until I came across this thread.

I thought the problem would be fixed shortly since there was already a thread about it.

That wasn't the case; the developers were more concerned with messing up my muscle memory on the mobile app.

Also, by the way: "testing out possible improvements for our app" doesn't look like that in my opinion – it's simply a bug, and there's no shame in admitting it and fixing it.

My Question or Issue

The "close" button is not on it's place, it moved slightly lower from the corner. This makes exiting the app more difficult (which, I suppose, is your strategy). However, this creates issues when I need to exit app while controling it from a distance. I can't simply move my cursor right and top and click. I have to suffer and then move it down until I hit it.
I know you are claiming this as "expected behaviour", but this is a mockery of your users. You want to retain customers by creating difficulties to exit the app? Bulls***. Please fix it.

I've been using Spotify since 2009 and loving it. But this is honestly such an unnecessary change to make. The X button has been there since the beginning of time, in every single computer program....except Spotify. Why? Besides being "different" and changing something for the sake of change, why? Pointless updates like this are so unnecessary and make me wonder if the devs even use their own app, because there is no way that someone who uses a computer for their job would think this is a good idea.

You have 4 pages, 60+ replies of people with this same complaint. And the official answer is "oh yeah, we made it worse on purpose, thanks for noticing!"

I am preparing to submit a formal complaint to the European Commission regarding this issue, and I request a clear response this time, including a specific deadline for when it will be resolved. Claiming that the current design is intentional is unacceptable, as it violates accessibility and usability standards. It would be more reasonable to acknowledge it as a bug, but since this has persisted for 11 months, a concrete timeline for correction is necessary.

I have attached the official PDF document that I plan to send to the European Commission.

Additionally, I have included an image demonstrating the issue. This problem has been widely reported, so there should be no confusion about the matter. Other related complaints are also available, though some automated responses on forums have provided inaccurate or unhelpful answers.

For everyone interested, since this post has a "solution" I have made a new post, which also shows my plans to complain to the EU Commission. Please help get the attention up:

Marked as solution

We are making changes to improve how the window controls (close, minimize, maximize) behave in the desktop app. These improvements are already in progress and will be reflected in an upcoming public release.
While the update won’t appear immediately for everyone, it will be included in a future version of the desktop app that’s rolling out soon. We appreciate your patience as the update makes its way to all users

Thank you for listening to us and sharing this update, @ThePodfather

I can't believe you fixed this. Thank you! For the last year I was closing Spotify by Alt+F4 😄

Good, now we just need to know why the other emplyee lied and said it was a feature?

I don't think it was a lie.
It was probably an experimental feature to prevent accidental closing of the window. But after experimenting they found out that this creates much more confusion and frustration, which significantly outweighs the benefits.

So they reversed it and called it "changes to improve". So it was like half a year of straight "improvements", Great Success! 😄

P.S.: anyway, thanks to you that you heard us and did change it back (even after some time)
