My Question or Issue:

While browsing Spotify on my computer, I noticed the canvas feature. Unfortunately, even though it is available, the canvas feature does not work. When I asked my friend, he said that everything was normal on his computer and canvas was working fine on his computer. For me, I just see a black screen. How to solve this problem?

another reason canvas would not be working is if "animate controls and elements within windows" feature is unchecked in SystemProperties > Advanced, it won't let canvas do its thing

how to check it:

win + R
type:  SystemPropertiesAdvanced

hit enter, under "performance" check "animate controls and elements within windows"

I have been complaining about this problem for a long time. I tried every solution recommendations in here and it didn't work. You said that you are working on it more than 1 month ago. When will this problem be solved ?

Sounds like the issue occurs even in the version from our website, is that correct? What about the Web Player?

 

Do you have any external devices connected to your PC (like a video-capturing device, or other HDMI/USB devices)? If so, try disconnecting them temporarily to see if that helps. Also, make sure you're running the driver updates.

IT WORKED! 

 

I used to have the animated loops showing for the songs that I play on my PC, but now they are no longer working anymore and just show the album art on the Now Playing view. I believe this is now happening ever since I updated my Windows 11 firmware. I just updated my Spotify app and it's still not showing. The option to enable the Canvas feature is enabled in my settings, although it is also greyed out and I'm unable to click it. Hopefully this is fixed soon. I really enjoyed the atmosphere this feature provided.

Thanks! I was fiddling the Windows settings for the task bar animation the other day and made some changes, didn't realize it's the reason that could cause the Spotify canvas to stop. Thanks a lot!

The video funtionality on the desktop version now works

The canvas, however, is a bit buggy on both versions (web and ms store versions). sometimes it will display the canvas, and sometimes it won't

For me, I seem to have the issue with canvas not showing on the desktop app when I have the app zoomed in at 110%. I've tried everything from clearing the cache to uninstalling/reinstalling, nothing works. 110% is the perfect zoom level for me, any more or any less doesn't look right on my screen. When I set the zoom level to anything that isn't 100%, the clips in the now playing view don't play, it's just grey. It's not an issue with music videos.

I want to add that it's a bit random, sometimes it doesn't work with 90% but works with 80%, sometimes it works with 80% but not 90%, but it ALWAYS works with 100%.

We'd like to confirm, does this still happen on the latest version of the desktop app? You can check for possible new version updates in the three-dot menu that you can find on the top left of your screen in the desktop app. There, select Help> About Spotify. If there’s a new version available, you’ll see a button “restart to install”.

 

If this still persists, make sure to perform a clean reinstall one more time and to install the desktop app from our web page. If this continues, please send us:

  • Make/model and exact OS of the affected device.
  • The exact Spotify version you're running.

Hi Spotify team !

 

Still not working for me and my friend's PC too for one particular song. I have this exact problem, black screen instead of canva. The album cover when selected is working fine.

In windows Advanced Parameters : "animate controls and elements within windows" has always been checked for me.

But works on a majority of songs.

 

I have the latest Spotify version I think (because I'm not proposed an update) : 

Spotify  pour Windows (64 bits)
1.2.59.514.g834e17d4

 

Not working on both PC :

Windows 10 PERSONNAL (MSI GF63 thin, intel i5, 8Go RAM, NVidia Geforce).

PRO PC Windows 11 (ASUS Vivobook Pro15 OLED, intel i9-13900H, 16Go RAM, NVidia Geforce RTX).
