My Question or Issue
I can't paste multiple song URLs from a list into a playlist anymore
For example:
https://open.spotify.com/track/7LSjKm6kL3rbp7DAQ1tS1f
https://open.spotify.com/track/4PJXT82AZtlDW4Q71b43oz
https://open.spotify.com/track/2qedTjoZqUAnlJB9QFwrin
https://open.spotify.com/track/5OusUgzHz6Ulb3GZT7WUo5
https://open.spotify.com/track/7eQEnXy5vNjPv6aXVl6N26
https://open.spotify.com/track/4IRL6dxjtttgOwG7xTxtw0
It will only paste the first most song of a list of URLs. I need to paste hundreds of songs so doing it one by one is not an option.
Hey @7-wy3_tz6gmz,
Thanks for reaching out.
The option to paste multiple URLs in a playlist is no longer available with the latest update for de Desktop app. The reason for this is that we're constantly trying out new things in order to provide you with the best music experience possible.
One possible workaround for you could be to select multiple songs in the app itself with Shift/Ctrl + click and drag and drop them in a new playlist. You can find a list of all shortcuts you can use here.
Hope this is helpful but don't hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions!
Thanks for the reply.
The actual underlying problem is that the shuffle algorithm is very bad at actually shuffling songs randomly. If your playlist has more than a hundred or so songs the algorithm will usually only play about 30-50 on repeat and completely ignore all other songs in the playlist. That was the underlying reason why I had to export songs, use a random line sorter and then re-import them back to actually get some random variation in my playlists.
So my suggestion is to work on improving the shuffle algorithm or implementing a "randomize songs" button that actually shuffles the songs inside the playlist around.
I suspect that the current shuffle algorithm is too complex. When implementing artificial randomness actually the more complex you make it the less random it becomes. For example if you add a rule to not play the same song twice for a given amount of songs that will dramatically reduce the effective "randomness" of said algorithm.
Hope those suggestions are useful.
Hey there @7-wy3_tz6gmz,
Thank you for your reply and feedback.
We're constantly aiming to improve our features so we hope you’ll continue using it and find it gets better in the future.
Once again - thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it. Let us know if we can help with anything else. We're always one reply away.
Take care!
This is extremely unfortunate.... I liked to randomize playlists I made and then paste it into a new playlist... So when its the same artists in a row sometimes 5 times, it mixes it up into the new playlist...
Please bring back the feature to paste multiple links at once!
How does this provide us the best music experience? This response doesn't make any sense. Can you please explain further how this helps the music experience? This is a functionality I have used almost daily. Please help me understand.
Hey its working now! It must have been a bug with the new update...
I wish the moderators were more knowledgeable and looked into the issues properly instead of being robots....
Yeah, this is totally unacceptable. If this is gone, then it is the death of Spotify for me.
Hey @rostasi,
Thanks for reaching out.
Copy pasting multiple URLs into playlist should now work for all users. If that's not the case It's a good idea to clean reinstall Spotify on the device where this occurs. This step lets you start afresh with the latest app version by removing any corrupted files from previous installations.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Not for me, it doesn't. I not only followed your method for re-install.
but I had already done this twice before using software and
it still doesn't work. I opened a new playlist and tried copy and paste -
first with the "Let's find something for your playlist" open and again
without it open, then I tried drag and drop and that didn't work either.
I tried above and below the bisecting line and still nothing.
Explain how this works, please.
Hey there @rostasi,
Thanks for getting back to us.
You should be able to select the links > copy them by pressing Ctrl+c > go to the playlist > paste the songs by pressing Ctrl+v.
If this doesn't work, would you mind sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device?
We'll be on the lookout.
Yes, of course I know how to copy/paste after 30 years of computer use.
Here's the info:
Mac Pro Server (mid 2010) • 2 X 3.46 Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon
64 GB memory
OS 10.11.6 ("El Capitan")
Spotify: 1.1.60.672.g6ad9c215-a
Its been working since it was fixed… was just after the update it didnt work… Thanks for fix it 😄
Hi @rostasi,
Thanks for your quick reply.
Could you let us know if you're seeing an error message when you're trying to copy or paste the links? If so, would you mind sending us a screenshot of it? Make sure not to send any private info.
On another note, could you send us the URIs of the links which you're trying to copy?
We'll be waiting for your reply.
No error message. I just get the screen shot that I sent you earlier.
It looks the same before and after I try to paste.
Here are three examples of links that I can't paste.
https://open.spotify.com/track/65WzEKiC6CPdpEaPmJGgqC
https://open.spotify.com/track/3btr8FTnA7p6fXGLph4pCD
https://open.spotify.com/track/6AyTDra4mx2ZJ1tKdA9da4
I've tried single ones, three links, 50 links, and larger and nothing pastes.
I've tried pasting onto a blank sheet to see if my "paste" function is working
and it pastes just fine on blank documents (like, sending an email).
I've tried pasting the text like this too:
spotify:track:63gOOUF0y1eBLiZ8gzcG6F spotify:track:6ywWUckY8OytExKHjjJdc5 spotify:track:2JHu3kxon7meLXrVTAwBY7
None of it works. I just get this (before and after):
Hey @rostasi,
Thanks for getting back to us.
We tested this at our end and could copy/paste the Spotify links you posted above. Could you give it one more go, but this time make sure, that there isn't an additional blank space selected at the end of the last link when you do so? Sometimes this can interfere with the feature.
If that doesn't fix things, it's a good idea to also check your host file for Spotify entries and delete any you find. Even though it was written for another topic, this page has instructions on how to do this.
Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.
OK, so this is not good. It works with individual lines,
but not lines separated by spaces. So that means that
when you highlighted the examples,
https://open.spotify.com/track/65WzEKiC6CPdpEaPmJGgqC
https://open.spotify.com/track/3btr8FTnA7p6fXGLph4pCD
https://open.spotify.com/track/6AyTDra4mx2ZJ1tKdA9da4
you didn't do them as a group of three because then you can't help
but have spaces between and so it can't work. You would have to
highlight each one individually which makes this completely useless -
especially if you have, let's say 100+ tunes to add to a playlist.
Highlighting this, below, as a group wouldn't work anymore either
because it has spaces:
spotify:track:4RoWH7HbdAsT2vHD1l9he2 spotify:track:2fA3V1T7Y6sP6DUXi8olXR spotify:track:4wOnkbekoLphr2skK0Kpuv spotify:track:7rjwdW10OX9kQjUtY5FWm1
whereas before it worked just fine.
Individually, these seem to work now, but what's the point?
The only way out of this mess would be that I now
have to find something online that will take a block of text
and create individual lines of text for each song (without spaces).
Thanks for the "improvement."
Hey @rostasi,
Thanks for your reply.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts about this and invite you to do so in this Community blog. The right folks are constantly monitoring it to gather all your feedback, as it helps us keep improving the app.
If you need a hand with anything else, we're always a post away.
Take care!
So, that's it?
No solution to this problem?
Hi @rostasi,
Thanks for keeping in touch.
We're afraid that's the expected behavior of the app with the newest interface and the links won't paste if there are spaces between them. That's why we suggested sharing your feedback in the dedicated Community blog I shared above. We've implemented several improvements and brought back some features thanks to the users feedback shared there. We always aim to improve and appreciate all the feedback you share with us.
For anything else you need, we'll be right here.
Hey there you, Yeah, you! 😁 Welcome - we're glad you joined the Spotify Community! While you here, let's have a fun game and get…
