[Desktop] Bug Report: RAM Usage

After my recent contact with Spotify Support all my downloaded content needed to be re-downloaded. Using the Desktop Client for Windows 10, I went to my saved songs and clicked the Download button/slider. I happen to have a system monitor open at the time which is the reason I know this was Spotify and not another application. After clicking the download button, Spotify informed me that I had over 2,000 songs to download. I proceeded to watch my 16Gb (Gigabytes) of RAM become used. Of course at 15.9 Gb my whole computer was locked up.I hard restarted my computer and opened Spotify once again. It once again stated that there were 2,000 songs to be downloaded. I opened my system monitor and watched my RAM again become completely used by the program.

I've since reinstalled Spotify for Windows 10 which removed my Download queue. I'm going to stick to streaming for the time being, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

Replication:

  1. Open Desktop Client (Win 10)
  2. Have 2,000+ songs saved.
  3. Navigate to “Songs”
  4. Use the Download Button/Slider

Specs:

  • Processor: Intel i74790K @ 4.0GHz
  • Memory: GSkill1600MHz2x8Gb
  • Graphics: MSIGTX 970 4Gb
  • Storage: Kingston SSD 120Gb, Seagate HHD 7200rpm 400Gb, Western Digital 7200rpm 500Gb

Thanks,

    Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Have you tried disabling "Hardware Acceleration" under the view tab in Spotify?

This usually does not make a significant change in usage, but it could possibly help.
