My Question or Issue
Hey everyone,
I’ve been having a really annoying issue with the Spotify desktop app and wanted to ask if anyone else has the same problem / if there’s any fix.
On Windows desktop app, when I have Autoplay turned on and try to drag and drop songs in the queue to change their order, the app starts to lag a lot, and sometimes drag and drop doesn’t work at all.
This has been happening for about a month already. I’ve tried restarting the app and my PC, but it keeps coming back.
I also have a friend on macOS who has the same problem with drag and drop in the queue when Autoplay is enabled, so it doesn’t look like it’s only a Windows issue. Reinstalling didn't help.
Same
Hey folks,
Thanks for getting in touch about this and welcome to the Community!
Just to confirm, does this only happen when you try dragging and dropping multiple songs to the queue or could you replicate it when you add only one song to it? Also, you mentioned that you've already reinstalled the app, but would you mind going through the steps of a clean reinstall, as it's more thorough than a normal one?
If those steps don't do the trick, would you mind sending us a short screen recording of the issue happening so we can take a closer look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
Lastly, sending us the exact OS and Spotify version of your devices would come in handy (if you haven't sent them already).
We'll be waiting for your replies.

I've already reinstalled the app multiple times
Hey @BloodRaven,
Thanks for getting back to us and sending us this info.
We tried this on our end, but couldn't replicate it. In this case, we suggest that you disable any antivirus or ad-blocking software that might be active on your PC, and turn off any VPNs if in use. Also, make sure to remove your host files. Head here to find out how.
If the issue persists, we recommend reinstalling the app again, but this time re-download it from the Microsoft Store if you've been using the website version or vice versa.
If this doesn't make the difference either, could you check if the same happens in the web player?
Keep us posted on how it goes.
Hi, thanks for getting back to me.
I’d like to clarify a few points from my side. I am not using any VPN, and I also don’t have any antivirus or ad-blocking software running that could interfere with the app. The app was working normally in the past, but for the last two months the performance has been consistently poor. I have already tried reinstalling the app multiple times (including a clean reinstall). After reinstalling, it usually works fine for around 10 minutes, but then the issue starts again and the app begins to lag and stutter heavily. I also tested the web player, and there everything works completely fine without any issues. The problem seems to occur only in the desktop app. Based on this, it looks like the issue is app-specific rather than related to my system or network settings.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards.
Thanks for the info @BloodRaven!
You mentioned that you've got a friend using a Mac where they're experiencing the same thing. It'd be very helpful if you could ask them to also post their details in the thread here as this may be something we could pass on to the relevant team, so they can check further.
In the meantime, let us know if you've noticed this happening with specific playlist(s) and try the suggested additional steps:
It's worth toggling the abovementioned settings to test if this will have an impact on the app's performance.
Lastly as @Eni has suggested in this response, try with downloading Spotify from our website or the Microsoft Store (the version you weren't using so far) as they can have slightly different behavior.
Appreciate your cooperation and we'll be on the lookout for your response 🙂

This problem mainly occurs when I start playing a song and a new queue is generated using the autoplay feature. When I then try to change the order of songs in that queue, the app starts lagging or the order of the selected song does not change at all.
I have reinstalled Spotify several times and always downloaded it from the official Spotify website. The same applies to my friend.
1. Disabling hardware acceleration did not help at all.
2. Turning off the equalizer did not help either.
3. Lowering the streaming quality did not help as well.
In all cases, I followed the instructions you provided: I changed the settings, closed Spotify, reopened it, and made sure the settings were properly saved and applied. However, after starting a song (with autoplay enabled), the issue still persists.
Thanks for keeping us posted @BloodRaven and for sharing all of these details.
You've mentioned installing the app from the official Spotify website, but just to test if the behavior would persist, it's worth deleting it and getting Spotify from the Microsoft Store here instead (only possible on Windows).
Something else that comes to mind is for both you and your friend to connect to another network (Wi-Fi or mobile data if possible).
Lastly, it would be very helpful if your friend could also go over some of the suggested troubleshooting steps, such as a clean reinstall, disabling any VPNs they may be using, disabling hardware acceleration, turning off the Equalizer, lowering the streaming quality etc.
Many thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Hi There Spotify team,
I have the exact same issue on Mac OS 15.5 running 1.2.79.427.g80eb4a07 (apple silicon). Autoplay has no effect (I currently have it off).
I could do a screencap (video) if spotify cares. It is beyond frustrating, and I was happy to see this thread with others seemingly experiencing the same problem.
VPN on/off has no effect. Connected audio device has no effect (same issue occurs with bluetooth output as internal speakers). App density (cmd +/-) has no effect.
I am HAPPY to be contacted to have someone from Spotify see this problem, it is absolutely maddening to not be able to easily adjust my queue anymore, and makes changing play order on the fly near impossible without risking screwing up the mix.
Hey @sjaffe,
Thanks you for the shared details!
We've gone ahead and shared this info with our folks backstage so that they can check what's going on here from our end.
