Desktop overlay doesn't update when listening on different device

Solved!

Desktop overlay doesn't update when listening on different device

Device

Acer Swift SF315-41

Operating System

Windows 10 Pro (Insider Preview)

My Question or Issue

When playing music on a different device via Spotify connect, the Desktop overlay stops updating. I don't want it to disappear though, because otherwise, I would not be able to control the music through my media keys anymore.

Got it @Secretowo!

You're right, because Spotify is currently not officially supported on the Raspberry Pi platform, we're afraid we can't guarantee that all features would work well through third party programs.

If you'd like to see a Spotify version for Raspberry Pi, you can create an Idea with the steps here.

Welcome to the community! Have you tried restarting your device, however I’m worried it might have something to do with the insider preview.

Hey there @Secretowo!

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out.

It's a great idea to start with the restart @MichaelJerzak suggested.

We can also suggest performing a clean reinstall of the app with the steps here. Make sure you re-download the app from the Microsoft store.

Last but not least, feel free to double check if your devices are on the same network so that the Connect feature would work without any issues.

Keep us posted on how it goes. We'll be here if you have any further questions.

I restarted, did a clean reinstall, and both devices are on the same network. The issue is still there.  I don't think its the insider preview, I'm sure I had this issue with a normal version of Windows.

It seems that Spotify just stops giving the song info to the overlay.

Thanks for the quick reply @Secretowo!

Could you try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that would make any difference for you? To do that:

  1. Click Edit in the menu bar. Select Preferences.
  2. Scroll down and uncheck Hardware acceleration.
  3. Restart Spotify.

If the issue persists, let us know the Spotify versions on both your devices and when you first started noticing the issue?

We'll be glad to investigate further 🔍

I did some more testing, and the issue is with the device I'm playing on (A Raspberry pi with Raspotify)
When I switch to playing on my phone the desktop overlay works flawlessly.
I guess I should report the issue to the developer of Raspotify.
