My Question or Issue

So I've been trying to log in to Spotify desktop for months via the "Log in via Facebook button. Although everytime it says different kinds of errors, mostly 3,7 &2. It usually says there is a block in the firewall (which there's not), and if it doesn't say that, it just says that there is a system error or that I can't log in at that moment. The Facebook button itself doesn't react anyhow when I try to log in via that. Would appreciate help, I've tried literally everything!

Hey @katarinalilius

I suggest looking into the hosts file as sometimes there are entries that break Spotify traffic.

Just follow this:

1. open Notepad as an administrator (right-click - Open as Administrator)
2. go to File - Open and navigate to

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

3. Choose "All Files" instead of "Text Documents" next to the File Name box. You'll see a handful of files. Pick hosts and click on Open.
4. The file is opened. You will see a block of text with # in front of each line and might see entries like

0.0.0.0 website.com
127.0.0.1 website2.com

Check for any entries with spotify or fastly in the address. Examples may look like:

0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com
0.0.0.0 prod.b.ssl.us-eu.fastlylb.net

(and any variations inbetween)
5. If you do find any, you can delete the line. You can also add a # in front of the line, that's 'commenting out'.
6. Save your changes. Restart Spotify.

Let me know how you get on 🙂

Hi again,

Unfortunately I couldn't find any linked to spotify whatsoever. Could there be another solution?

@katarinalilius

In this case I'd recommend a clean reinstall. 🙂

1. Close Spotify and uninstall it.
2. Go to %AppData% in Windows Explorer, and delete any Spotify folders you find in Local and Roaming folders.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Install Spotify.

If you use a Windows Store version of Spotify, I recommend resetting the app's data (read this Windows Club article) and reinstalling as guided in this article.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi,

I did the steps above but still the same issue. Very confusing 😮

@katarinalilius

I'd recommend logging in on Facebook in the browser (if you haven't already) as well as making sure the browser you like to use is set as Default (Spotify will use default programs).

Clearing the browser's cookies and cache might help too.

Can you log in to the web player?

Keep me posted 🙂
