Don't get me wrong, I love the show and I binged it all within 48 hours. But can anyone tell me how to disable the overlay in the desktop client? It's choking my PC at work. 100% CPU load. It's not cool.
Thanks!
Solved! Go to Solution.
It doesn't seem to show the overlay when you create a playlist, only when you play directly from the album.
Add to Play List > New Playlist, then play the music from the new playlist.
I also had this problem and wish there was a way to turn it off. It's pretty frustrating. I reached out to Spotify Help and they said it's an ad. But I pay for premium so I should have the option to turn it off.

Good idea. Didn't think of that. Probably should have. It's a good work around.
Hopefully Spotify will address the actual problem at some point though. Needing a 4GHz processor to listen to music is a bit overkill 😉

Completely agree with you. There should be an option for subscribers.
I do like the idea behind this type of marketing. It looked cool. But it has to be done properly and not coded in such a way where it gimps the hardware it's running on.
Making a playlist to avoid **bleep** like this is not a solution, it's just a bandaid.
you must have really bad PC's then.
Don't know.. :')
Sometimes drivers are slightly incompatible or there are other software issues on a PC that's othewise powerful enough to run Gimp with extensions, Virtualbox and Firefox all at once...
I don't have issues with it on the web player...
However, rooting out the issue may become a bit more tedious than toggling a simple switch to turn off something that hogs resources in some reason or another.
I doubt that disabling hardware acceleration would help a lot here, it's just adding more work to the 'general purpose' CPU instead of letting an accelerator help. But maybe it helps. I have no idea!

It's a government issued craptop. So yes, it is bad.
My rig at home does not have the same problem. But if you have a weak machine, features like this MIGHT cause problems. And that's all I wanted to shed some light on 🙂
Same problem here. Chews up CPU when overlay is displayed. I'd hardly call it an ad since you can't even click on it or have it take you anywhere. But good idea with the playlist function. I'll try that.
I have a top of the line Mac Book Pro and it causes my CPU to spin up. Maybe an optimization issue on the Mac.
