It looks as if the forums are places where people come to give up on Spotify.

How many years of experience do developers have to draw on, to ascend above sophomoric stupidity and respect best practices for how something as fundamental as software installation should work? 

The most crummy, ridiculous, stupid, half-assed software generally installs without a hitch, and manages to update itself easily enough. And when Microsoft PROPERLY shuts down appdata, even the lousiest software out there has no problem because even the STUPIDEST developers never installed to appdata. 

Then there's Spotify.
