No more warning when adding duplicate songs

No more warning when adding duplicate songs

I used to get a warning when adding duplicate songs. This is no longer displayed in the Windows app. Unfortunately, I can't find a setting to reactivate this.
Is this a bug or Works as Designed?

Hey @Vossy1995,

Thanks for posting on the Community!

Hope you don't mind us moving your post, as it fits better here. A popup message that the song already is in the playlist should appear if you're using the desktop.

Just to check, does clearing stored cache make any difference? Once it's done, try signing out from the app and back in again. Completing these actions should resync your account info.

Another option is to try a clean reinstall, as this will clear cache too, as well as make sure that you're running the latest version.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you let us know the model and operating system version of your device, along with the Spotify version?

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Maria, I have uninstalled the app and also deleted the registration. The message only appears when I go to the search and click on "Add to playlist". However, if I use the "Find more" function directly in the playlist, the message does not appear.

Hi there @Vossy1995,

Thanks for the reply. Is this only on the desktop app? Is this with all playlists? If you haven't already, try using the webplayer on the same device and see if that works.

Let us know how it goes.

Hello Joan,
No, also in the web player. The function is not available in the Andorid app and therefore cannot be tested.
Yes, it is the case for all playlists.

It's about the function directly in the playlist.

Go to a playlist > click on "Find more" at the bottom right > now enter an existing song in the search field = no message.

Thanks for the additional info @Vossy1995!

Our tech folks will look further into this. In the meantime, make sure you're always running the latest version of Spotify so you don't miss out on any updates.

The Community's always here if there's anything else we can assist with.

Cheers 🙂

My Question or Issue

I have seen similar topics but I have not found an answer yet. For the past months (maybe even longer) I no longer get the notification to skip the duplicate songs when adding an album or a playlist to another playlist. And I can't find another option to quickly screen or remove duplicates which is very annoying as I often used to make new playlist by merging albums and different playlist. I know there are third party apps but it is ridiculous that this used to be a feature and is now removed for no good reason. I used this a lot and it has almost made this app unusable for me (first world problems, i know). I only use Spotify on my phone (samsung, android 14 and previously on a samsung android 11). It happened on my previous phone as well. This is pretty much the only device I really use, so only making playlist on desktop is not a solution. I'm currently on Spotify version 9.0.86.1358. At this point I am only using Spotify as I'm on family plan and don't have to pay. I'm really hoping there is a solution or it will get fixed soon and I was wondering if Spotify is planning to do something about it in the next update
