Possible Defect: "See Discography" Link Navigates to First Listed Album from Artist Rather than List

Solved!

Possible Defect: "See Discography" Link Navigates to First Listed Album from Artist Rather than List

I've noticed in the past couple of days that the "See Discography" link on artists' pages no longer navigates to a listing of their albums. Instead, that link has been bringing me to first album listed for that particular artist.

Repro Steps

  1. In either the Windows or web app (maybe others?) visit an artist's page.
  2. Scroll down to the Albums section.
  3. Click the "SEE DISCOGRAPHY" link.

Expected Results: Spotify should display a list of the artist's available albums.

Actual Results: Spotify immediately navigates directly to the first album in the list.

The client makes a request for the discography (e.g. /pathfinder/v1/query?operationName=queryArtistDiscographyAlbums) and then immediately makes subsequent requests for the first album from the response of the discography request (e.g. /pathfinder/v1/query?operationName=queryAlbumTracks).

I've noticed this unexpected behavior on both the Windows (1.1.67.586.gbb5ef64e) and web apps, but the Android app works as expected. Has anyone else encountered the same behavior?

Hey @bullines,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community 🙂

We tested this from our end and can confirm that you should be able to see the entire album list by scrolling down in this page, as it will always show the most recent album first. You'll also find some options in the upper right corner that will allow you to choose between sorting them on a list or a grid.

If you're still not able to see all the albums in this page, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app. This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

I'm seeing a similar problem in the  OSX app. Version 1.1.70.610.g4585142b

I've reinstalled Spotify and the issue persists. I've attached a screen recording demonstrating the problem.

Hi @OpIvy,

Thank you for posting on the Community!

We've reviewed the video you sent and can see that you're currently using the List view instead of the Grid view. The List view will make the albums show in that order, but if you scroll down you'll be able to go through the full discography.

To switch to Grid view, simply open an artist's discography and click on this icon on the top right side of the window.

Hope this helps.

Is there a way to keep Grid view as the default view when looking into the Discography page of an Artist page?
I'll click on Grid, but when I hit back or go to another Discography page - it'll return to the List having me to keep click Discography. I feel like this has just happened within the last two or three days. I love a big discography, but having to scroll through a list of Albums and Songs feels more counter-productive compared to the Grid view.
Perhaps I'm missing an option somewhere, but I've looked everywhere for an option to keep Grid as my default.
Currently  using 1.1.81.604.gccacfc8c Windows 10

Hey @djk2x,

Thanks for posting on the Community.

Just to confirm, did you already perform a clean reinstall of the app? In this case, the grid option should be set as permanent once you select it.

If this doesn't do the trick, we suggest logging out and restarting your device. Let us know if the issue persists.

Keep us in the loop.

Hey, Novi! Thanks for sharing your suggestions to remedy this issue with the Grid.

I did the clean reinstallation on the app for Windows 10, but the Grid option didn't stick permanently. So, I did the next suggestion of logging out and restarting my computer - and still had the same result of it returning back to List mode instead of Grid.

If there was anything noticeably different just FYI; it was that the Friend Activity re-appeared. I didn't even notice that it was missing 😄

Hey @djk2x

Thanks for getting back to us.

We can confirm that currently there's no option to set a default view for the complete discography section.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us and will make sure to pass it onto the right team, as we always strive to improve your experience.

You can also have a look in our Idea Exchange to see if someone else has already made a similar suggestion. If there isn't one, you can give these steps a go and submit your idea so that other users can also support it. The higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for it to be implemented.
