My Question or Issue

I use the Spotify desktop application both with direct Internet connection (no proxy needed), at home, and with HTTPS proxy, at work.

When I open the application at work I should go to Preferences to change the proxy settings, but the application freezes for a minute (aprox) and says "Something went wrong - reload the page" and I try to open Preferences from upper-left menu but wih no success, so impossible to use Spotify at work if I haven't changed proxy settings before going to my office.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Pokermman!

You can reset the app's preferences by deleting the prefs file from the Spotify installation folder. Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Spotify.
  2. There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
  3. While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
  4. Restart the Spotify app.

Note that if Spotify was installed through the Microsoft Store, the installation folder would be located in C:\Program Files\Windows Apps instead, but accessing it requires administrator permissions, so you may need to get in touch with an administrator.

Once the prefs file is deleted, you'll be logged out and your preferences will be reset, so you'll have to adjust them again. If you had music downloaded for offline listening, you'll have to re-download it as well. Your library, however, will not be affected, so no worries there.

Hope this helps. Cheers!
