Radio nightmare

Radio nightmare

I'm trying out a free plan of Spotify but it seems like I'm not going to stay very long as the issues have been stacking up straight from the getgo. One of the most annoying thing is this: I clicked on the menu item labelled Radio to see what that was all about on the desktop application and all of a sudden it started to flood me with artists, songs and what I gather are stations (?) without me ever accepting that or taking initiativ to that att all! I'm desperatly looking for a way to delete the stuff that I never wanted in the first place but its god **bleep** impossible to find a way out of this nightmare! I should never in the first place be attacked with a bunch of music I never asked for, but don't tell me Spotify forces us to live with that? Surerly there must be a way to stop this? Also, it creates a cover art image bottom left on the desktop application that never goes away unless I switch to one of my playlists that I made myself. These "stations" are a nightmare and far from what I would choose IF I had the opportinity to actually choose it myself.

I read an article that said the stations could be deleted on the mobile app but there are no radio feature in my Android app at all! I only get this on the Windows desktop UI.

Is this gonna be the shortest trial I've ever done? If this is a sign of things to come I'm out of here.

Hey @Greggy300

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with Radio, I'll try to bring some light to that 🙂

On desktop client you have two menus. One is Radio and this has lots of suggestions based on what artists/playlists you've recently listened to. If you haven't listened to a lot of music yet, then it might have suggestions that you won't like (popular artists). All stations in this section are recommendations, it's not possible to remove them, but they will change according to what you listen to.

Stations is another menu. This holds radio stations you've favorited (clicked on Follow button or the heart icon), nothing else. No suggestions in this section.
To unfollow a station you click on it and click the Unfollow / green heart button.

You can start radio stations from any playlist, song, album or artist. Just click the three dots and select "Go to playlist/song/album/artist radio" and it takes you to the channel page where you can hit play and follow it.

If you need more help, let me know 🙂

First of all. I wish someone working at Spotify could face up and meet the users. Says alot that they have totally left their users out in the cold by shoving the responsibility of informing over to other users.

Message to Spotify: Never push anything on users that they haven't personally chosen themselves. ALWAYS provide options. Never provide forced and irreversible content. That is the main and golden rule of any service. What your saying is that you will keep flooding the section labeled radio with content without my consent. That itself is rather amazing and it says alot about Spotify and what I could expect from this if I went ahead and payed for a Premium account - which I'm not gonna do needles to say. In addition to that your referring to what you define as a menu item labeled station. Well, there's no other menu item menu labeled station, however, what you might be referring to is an overlay #div that is placed on top of the masthead graphic top right as a button with the label "new station". That's not a menu item. That's a randomly placed link. The menu is on the far left. But what does that have to do with me wanting to AVOID stations? All I wanted to when I entered the menu link named Radio was to check out what type of content I could find there, not a flood of stations that I NEVER asked for and that can't remove?! Jisses christ. I'm lost for characters. Bye bye Spotify.

Hey @Greggy300.

Thanks for getting in touch!

The Radio feature/section is built around the idea to have songs chosen for you. Just how a traditional radio station works. The difference is that the more you listen to the Radio feature on Spotify, the more it learns about you. This means that the recommendations should improve over time.

If you don't want anything recommended by us, we suggest choosing your own artists/playlists to follow and to listen to. You can even create your own playlists and fill it with songs you have selected yourself. This in turn will improve the Radio feature as well.

Keep in mind that Free users can only listen in Shuffle mode. You can read here what you can do with a Free account.

If you have further questions on how to use Spotify, please let us know 🙂

Have a nice day!
