Spotify automatically starts up when I turn my computer on. How do I stop that? I am using windows 7 os.
Solved! Go to Solution.
A program that installs itself as autostarting without asking the user is malware in my opinion.

Hi
I'm returning customer for both spotify and microsoft.
I totally agree with other people on this thread, this autostart crap makes your software feel very intrusive.
Just like spam on web pages.

Yes,
I turned it off in the preferences tab and it worked for me, no more auto start.
BUT, after I slected "Do not start" in the preferences tab, I made sure to click the back arrow (looks like "<") to return ot the main Spotify screen before closing out the program. It would be nice to have a "save preferences" button in the program. Also, it would be extra nice if the prgram asked you to choose whether it auto starts in the installation process. It would feel muhc less intrusive that way.

You don't have to download the Spotify program. You can use the explorer or firefox to bring up the spotify program and from them you can do anything you want as you downlaod the program.
Running Windows 8.1 and have gone through this thread now and I cannot get it not to start at login.
1. Disabled startup in preferences
2. Unchecked start from web in preferences
3. Made sure it does not start in Task manager->Startup
4. Checked registry for any startup related tasks regarding spotify
5. Uninstalled spotify, ran CCleaner removing every file and registry entry related to spotify and installed again
6. Ran sysinternals autoruns and went manually through every entry searching for anything related to spotify
7. Manually went through Scheduled tasks and Services.
Still starts att login.
THANK YOU so much!! I was really annoyed by the auto start and your solution worked perfectly!! thank you for sharing it with us!!
If Spotify is already open, click on "Edit" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, click on "Preferences", scroll down to the bottom and in the "Open Spotify automatically after you llog into the computer" section, select "Don't open automatically". Click on "<" underneath "File" in the upper left-hand corner of the screen after that if you want.
Thanks, Great advise. Worked perfectly
Windows 8
- open "Task-Manager" in search
- select the TAB "Autostart"
- click (highlight) "Spotify"
- select "deactivate"
- click (highlight) "SpotifyWbHelper"
- select "deactivate"
restart the computer.
problem solved.
you're welcome.
Software installing itself into autostart is a sure way to make everybody hate you.
I got it to stop autostarting after scrolling through endless posts. That’s time of my life i never get back.
Please developers note this one thing as the most important thing ever:
"If you offer a service, offer an easy possibility to turn that service off!"
Also the first thing a person should be able to find is the "uninstall/delete-account button". As much as you don’t want them to find it, is about as much they want to have it. Don’t make your software become a golden cage, where your customer gets stuck in.
cheers
I uninstalled. For me it is abusing.
Go to the start button
type msconfig in the search bar
you will end up at a window with several tabs, choose the one that says startup
here you will see all the items at startup and you can disable ones that you don't want to use.
done!

Nothing you suggested here helps.
I tried with version 1.0.8.xxx and 1.0.9.133 and even though I choose not to start at all, it keeps starting anyway.
msconfig commands does not work either, because even spotify is not on startup folder, it starts again when I restart it.
I am on Win 7 64-bit
hello,
any help here about this issue
Spotify automatically adds a new item to the msconfig/startup every time I uncheck it, even if I don't have it set to start under the preferences. Very annoying.
