Saving state when shutting down PC

My Question or Issue

When closing the Spotify client via "File"->"Close Spotify" the current state is saved, e.g. which song is playing, is Shuffle activated etc.

If however Spotify is running in the background when the PC is shut down (normal Windows shutdown), the settings are not saved.

Since Spotify often is started automatically and is not manually closed (clicking the cross typically minimizes to tray) the settings more often than not are not saved.

Please handle Windows shutdown events gracefully and save the state.

Hey @keex

You can edit what clicking on the X button does. Click on the menu dots, goto Edit - Preferences, scroll down, click on Advanced Settings, scroll downwards to Startup and Window Behaviour and turn off (turn it grey) "Close button should minimize the Spotify window to tray".

This way you shouldn't have any issues with forceful taskkills causing lost play state, since you will be closing Spotify gracefully.

Hope this helps, have a good day 🙂

Hello Sebasty,

thank you for your reply. That is however not what I'm looking for. Having the button minimize to tray is exactly what I want it to do. It is one of those fire-and-forget programs for me.

Programs get notified when Windows shuts down (or goes to standby and so on), so the software should be able to just handle it gracefully, meaning just like a normal closing of the program.

Cheers

Jens

In this case I recommend creating an Idea on this, so other users with similar interest can add votes to it as well as let Spotify know what you'd like. 🙂

Have a lovely day!
