My Question or Issue

Hi Support, since the UI upgrade I have persistent issues with the search functionality. It times out and then returns "Oops, something went wrong while loading the artist".

This also happens when clicking on an artist or album link.  Be great to hear if there is a solution

Hi there @acidjunkie,

Thank you for your post here in the Community.

Can you perform a clean reinstall of the app? This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

Another useful step to do is to try with another internet connection to see if the issue persist.

If that doesn't do the trick, can you provide us a screen recording so that we can have a closer look from your end?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers!

Thank you Jeremy - clean install did the trick.

Hello,

I cannot get it to work! I have tried to do the clean reinstall. After performing the uninstall, I have searched for every single Spotify file left and deleted it by using ctrl-shift-delete, this permanently deletes the files unlike when sending them to the recycling bin. But when I reinstall the software, my previous searches do not show up in the search section when I click the search bar.

I am running version 1.1.59.712.g54f36e5d-a

I have tried many things to fix it, but this is really bothering me. I search for songs often that I want to be able to find again in the search section.

Hey @leoals

Thanks for posting - we’re here to help!

If this persists after a clean reinstall we also recommend checking the hosts file for entries that need to be deleted. Follow the steps described here on how you can do that.

In case you see no difference after, it's a good idea to check if it's happening only when connected to a certain Internet connection. If possible, we'd suggest connecting to a different network.

If it works with another connection, it’d be a good idea troubleshooting further the original one (for example by restarting your router). You can also reach out to the service provider of the original network so that they can take a look on their end as well.

Keep us posted! We'll be here if you have any questions.

Hello Ivan,

Thank you for your reply!

I have followed all the steps, inlcuding deleting the hosts file (there were no spotify or fastly lines, unfortunately), but no luck. I connected my PC to my mobile hotspot, and I still cannot see my previous searches in the search section when I click on the search bar. I even tried to access it through the web player, but I still cannot see my previous searches. I have attached an image of how it looks like after I have searched for a song by Tenacious D and picked a song from the search results, when I go back to the search bar it looks like it does on the image.

Thank you for your time, and I really hope I can get this fixed. This started when the new UI was released a few weeks ago. It worked perfectly fine before the update.

Best regards,

Leo

Hey there @leoals

Thanks for getting back in touch.

Would you mind letting us know if this is only happening on your PC or on other devices as well? Additionally, could you try if the same happens on a different PC?

On another note, could you ask a friend or a relative to log in to their account in your PC to check if the issue persists with a different account?

We'll be on the lookout.

Hello,

My phone works just fine at home or outside. Like I already said, this problem started the moment your new UI for the Windows software was released a few weeks ago. So I do not see it as being any issue on my end, but I asked my sister to login through her account and she could not see the search results either on my PC. There is nothing wrong with my PC, or my router, or my ISP, or anything else within my walls that could be causing a clear software issue such as this. The webplayer is also giving the same issue. I have tried the web player on my iPad while out and it does not show recent searches for songs.

I have know searched for a song and found that if I choose the top result after searching and go to the album in question and choose the song, I will be able to find that song in recent searches. But that is tedious to do. Having to go to the album and then pick the song. When I search for a song I play it from the results that comes under ‘songs’, and would expect them to also be shown under recent searches.

I have attached some photos to show you what I mean. The first 3 pics show how I went to the album in Top Result after searching and chose the song and then I could find it under Recent Searches. The next post will show pics of how I search for the same song and choose the song from the results of songs, and this way does not show the song under Recent Searches.

And in these photos, I searched for the same song (Where the Hood At by DMX) and I chose the song directly from the results of songs, and this way it does not show the song under my Recent Searches. In the previous post, I showed you how it looks like if I clicked on the album under Top Results after searching, and then chose the song in the album.

Hey @leoals,

Thanks for getting back to us and for the screenshots.

We're sorry for the misunderstanding, this is expected behavior. We've gotten word from the developer team that with the most recent update items will appear in your recent searches if you've navigated to them, but not if you've played them directly from search.

We understand how this might cause some inconvenience and will make sure your feedback is taken into consideration when moving forward.

Hope this is helpful but don't hesitate to let us know if you have any further questions!

Thank you for your reply and answer! I really hope you tell them to fix this ASAP. It seems like a bug that needs to be resolved as I do not think the developers of the software intended for the search function not to function 100%.

Best regards,

Leo
