Shuffle function not working for big playlists

I have a best of the best playlist of 1000+ songs. The shuffel function does not seem to work randomized, instead the songs that are picked up depend on how I have sorted the playlist. For example if I have sorted it with the order of last added first it only plays shuffled songs from the last period not the complete playlist. If I have sorted it in artists alphabetical order it only plays shuffled songs from artists in the beginning of the alphabet, and so forth. How can I get around this and have the whole playlist with a randomized shuffle function?
