Shuffle is broken

Shuffle is broken

[Premium, Windows 10 64-bit, Desktop App]

I've been having trouble lately with listening to a playlist on shuffle. If I add new songs to the playlist and then go to listen to it on shuffle, it will play a lot of newly added songs first. This is really frustrating, I'd prefer shuffle to choose songs from the playlist at random, with no bearing on when they've been added. No matter how many times I 're-shuffle' the playlist it still puts the recently added songs at the top of my queue. I've attached a few screenshots to highlight what I mean. Hope this issue can be resolved soon. Thanks.

UPDATE: Uninstalled and re-installed the spotify app, shuffle is now playing the other songs on my playlist, seemingly properly shuffled. Still hoping for a more permanent solution/fix so this won't occur again.

Hello @JayDarcy and welcome to the community.

Sorry to hear that 🙂

I use a lot the shuffle function since I started on Spotify, 9 years ago, and I never had this problem.

I suggest you try that :

- Always turn shuffle on first

- To start listening a playlist in shuffle mode : don't click PLAY at the top of the playlist but double click the name of the playlist in the left column (playlist library)

I, personally, use this way and, to be honest, I never have the same song starting playing and it can start at any position in the playlist. I do that on a playlist with 3700 + songs and every time, it renews the listening pleasure, as on a radio.

Good luck,

Enjoy your listening 🙂

Even when I started the playlist by clicking the playlist name, shuffle was only shuffling through the 30-or-so song titles that were visible on my screen. It wasn't playing the other 90 titles that I'd have to scroll up or down to see.

I deleted the Spotify app for mac and reinstalled it, and shuffle seems to be working properly now.

Yeah same, seems like it could have something to do with data that is stored locally, blocking cookies from the application could be a workaround ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This can be found at the very bottom of Preferences --> Advanced Settings.
