My Question or Issue

Since update 1.2.48.405.gf2c48e6f, audio from some games disappear completely when playing a music through de windows App, sound comes back when pausing the songs.

So far i have only encountered the issue twice, on iRacing and Farming simulator 22.

Here are a few reddit posts of people having the same issue :

The sound only stops for those games, for example if chrome is running, it isn't muted when those games are.

Hi guys, I would join this thread.
Having same issues with iRacing, started today (till yesterday everything was okay).

  • tried both versions of Spotify (web install & store install)
  • web player works without an issue !
  • have this issue in iRacing only
  • different application in background does not have this issues (crewchef)
  • using win11 23h2 (build 22631.4317) & B650 aorus elite ax v2

Thanks for the details folks! We've forwarded the info to our tech team who'll investigate further. We'll keep you posted here as soon as we have any updates, so stay tuned!

Following for same issue

Hi gyus, I've somehow (by accindent) found a workaround:

  • Windows / sound seetings / mix / all same level (max)
    pytlik_1-1729356747607.png
  • Spotify: turn down volume (~60%)
    pytlik_4-1729356822340.png
  • Keep the Spotify running in background
  • Run iRacing
  • Let the session running few tents of minutes (was around 45 min. in my case)
  • Press play in Spotify (was bored during race and simply gave it a lucky try)
  • now the Spotify & iRacing (& other) sounds should work together

So far worked in 2 iRacing sessions, haven't restarted computer yet (fingers crossed).

Things I tried before and it seemed that they didn't work:

  • Spotify: turn off normalized volume
    pytlik_0-1729356702241.png
  • Windows / sound settings / communications tab / detected communication activities -> do nothing
    pytlik_3-1729356801658.png
  • Windows / sound / speaker properties / exclusive mode / untick all
    pytlik_2-1729356778515.png
  • Windows / sound / speaker properties / signal enhancements / untick all

Hi there folks,

We've received info from our tech teams that this should now be resolved. Please make sure your apps are on the latest version to make sure you get this. If you continue to face any similar issue, please let us know.

Cheers!

I still have the issue. It's like the game sound is coming from Spotify. If I pause the music, the game sound comes back to normal.

Thanks for the reply @P1st3ll1!

Just to confirm, have you tried @pytlik's suggestions of disabling Volume normalization in Spotify + Windows' sound enhancements and communication settings? Does changing the Spotify audio quality have any effect on this? If you're using any other audio optimization apps, try disabling them as well.

Also, does your current setup involve an external sound card / DAC? If so, check if using the onboard audio of your PC instead exhibits the same behavior.

Cheers 🤘

No actually... But what I found out is changing the device Output device in Sound Mixer fixes while I don't close Spotify.

P1st3ll1_0-1733335176403.png

I can change it to whatever device I want and change it back to Default. It plays normally.
This is what I've been doing:
1- Open the game;
2- Open Spotify;
3- Change de device on Windows Volume Mixer (to any device);
4- Change it back to default.

As long as I keep Spotify open and don't close it, the sound plays normally.
If I close it and open again, while the game is open, the issue returns.
