Spotify Connect not working between Windows PC & Android Phone

Spotify Connect not working between Windows PC & Android Phone

Hi,

I have Spotify on a Windows 10 PC and also on my Samsung Android phone.

Both have the latest versions of Spotify. The 'Connect to a device' feature used to work just fine, but stopped working a few weeks ago. Both my phone and the PC don't show any other devices.

I've uninstalled Spotify on my PC and re-installed, which hasn't helped.

On my Android phone, 'Show local devices only' is not enabled.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem. I believe the latest release of the Spotify PC desktop client broke Spotify Connect. (version 1.0.75.483.g7ff4a0dc).

Before the latest update, when I played Spotify desktop app on my PC, I could "see" it from another PC, or my iPhone, iPad, or even chromebook running Spotify for Android. Now - nothing. No devices show up!

I hope Spotify fixes the Spotify Connect feature soon!!!

It is absolutely infuriating to me that every Spotify update seems to break something! Whether it is the desktop app for PC, or apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android, when they push out a new version, there is always some feature that worked before that gets broken. Come on, Spotify! How about testing the apps before releasing them???

At least with iPhone, iPad, and Android, I can decline the update. But - with the PC app, it forces itself upon you. Once you close the app, when you reopen it, it will start installing the new version of Spotify that invariably breaks stuff that used to work!

Spotify - please test your apps before releasing them, and PLEASE FIX SPOTIFY CONNECT for PC desktop app!!!!

I had a support chat with someone from Spotify this afternoon which took about 1 hour.

Spotify support told me that they haven't received any reports about Connect being broken - so I suggest that you contact them too.

Here are the steps we went through on the support chat:

- Check that both devices are on the same network/WiFi/etc (they are)

-  What is seen on both devices when going to 'connect'? Basically - nothing.

- Am I using Chrome cast? No

- Can I do a hard reset on my router. I can't actually - I'm at work. I might try this out of hours.

- Can I try using bluetooth? No, the PC does not have bluetooth.

- Can I try their test account? I did - my phone saw other devices, but the desktop app saw nothing.

- They asked me to reset the router again, which I can't do right now.

The reason to reset the router was supposedly to clear connections, etc. Considering I had reinstalled both apps, logged in and out on both apps, etc - everything should already be cleared.

- My router doens't use UPnP, so that can't be to blame.

- Both apps can play music, so clearly they can connect to Spotify (interestingly they can both play at the same time, on the same account, so Spotify isn't stopping the other device from playing when starting on another any more).

- I used my phone to connect to my PC over the LAN (connected to a Windows share manually). So my two devices can definitely see each other.

I think the issue is with the Windows client too. I am going to try at home separately when I get a chance. I have a couple of other Windows 10 PCs there, another mobile phone, a tablet, etc.

So, interestingly I have tried at home and it works just fine there. Very, very strange.

It is working for me now. I have not had any updates to any of my Spotify apps, so perhaps it was a temporary issue on the Spotify servers that was causing the issue. It could have been related to the rollout of the desktop app update, or maybe it had nothing to do with that.

All I know is that I have used Spotify connect regurlarly for months, and it was not working for me on any of my devices on the evening of March 7th, 2018.

It is working now. Let's hope that it stays that way!

I had the same issue today.

The fix was to log out of spotify in the browser.

I was logged in with Chrome.

And logging out and back in on android and the windows player did nothing, but at soon as I logged out in Chrome both Anroid and Windows Apps worked as expeced again (listing each other as devices to play on).

Thank you!  That was my problem as well.
